On the other hand, no less then a week ago when I dared to challenge that Radiohead giving away the album for free "was revolutionary" on a pure factual basis, you did throw a hissy-fit and started attacking other bands, which had nothing to do with anything, and so I didn't dignify your ad populum with a response. You're just acting utterly ridiculous. You're like one of those 14 year olds who defend Good Charlotte or Fall Out Boy with arguments consisting of "yer gay!" 2. someone compared Radiohead to the Pumpkins/QOTSA/Foo Fighters as DC101 bands.
3. i proclaimed Radiohead as better than all of those crappy bands.
4. you brought up something about Billy Corgan beating Radiohead to releasing an album online
5. i said, it was probably some record label marketing guys idea anyway.
6. you broke out "ad populum"

7. someone says they want hooks in the Radiohead songs
8. i say buy a SP record.

really. the smashing pumpkins arent even a band to me anymore, so why would i get all mad about them? i'm bored with this and i am sorry i brought up the Pumpkins again…i should've known better…jeez.

The reason I brought up SP's free album was because you and others were going on about how Radiohead releasing the album in this manner was "unprecedented" and "would destroy the music industry" and I pointed out that it was not without precedent as SP – along with easily 10 other established acts (Bowie, Stars, Dandy Warhols) – have done similar things. Your response to this factual correction? "NONE OF THOSE BANDS MATTER!" There's a mature response.
Someone points out what they dislike about the album in this thread and what's your response? Backhanded digs at other bands that are completely off-topic. Most adults I know can discuss their impressions on a piece of work without randomly trashing bands that the viewing audience (as a whole) find distasteful just to score cheap points. as is probably clear, I love the album. But in reading the lukewarm responses here, it has prompted me to think a bit about records as a whole…
It is interesting - I feel sorry for somebody who doesn't love this as much as I do. It has made for a great day of listening to music for me - and I'm certain that this will be an album that I'll get great pleasure out of for a long time. I'm looking forward to how this will sound after having it for a week, a month, three years from now - because that's what I love about Radiohead. Their albums sit very well with me.
One of the best parts of music to me is the ability to share it with other people - that's the reason we argue about all of these frivolous little things on here all of the time. And when a great record comes along, part of the fun is being able to talk with your friends about how great it is, and why its great, and picking apart the little nuances that make it great. It hasn't diminished the appeal of the record to me that some of you don't seem to dig it as much - but at the same time, I kind of wish you did so we could all geek out about how good it is. And I wonder what that says about records and albums as a community experience.

Hey, did you see the thread on the other new releases that came out yesterday? There's lots of them! Lots and lots and lots of new records, of which Radiohead's is one. If Rainbows was the only record released in 2007, I might be a little disappointed. But it wasn't! Yay! Choice! No need for lockstep agreeance!
I don't understand why people aren't ejaculating over the Gallows, Jay Reatard and Witchcraft records, but I make a big mess over those things all day every day. Do I feel sad? Hell no! Slightly superior and a little hungry? Hell yes!
And besides, when me and my music buddies all agree on the merits of a record, that conversation lasts about a minute and a half. When we disagree on a record, that conversation will drag on for months and months, and to me, that's more fun and stimulating.
