do you think more aspiring musicians are trying to emulate Thom Yorke or Bono?

then i suppose you dont consider CBS a reputable news source either?
Originally posted by le sonick:Yeah, heavens forbid an argument on what musician is the "biggest in the world" be based on any quantifiable, verifiable facts.
but i think album sales and concert sales arent the end of the story.
You're right, it's best to go with gut feelings like "who feels like the biggest band" or "who do you think kids most want to emulate?" This is about on par with how Georgie W. took us into Iraq.
Originally posted by Julian, good manners AFICIONADO:i worked at the CBS News Washington bureau for 7 years when this was taking place. there was great protest to the firing of mr. rather and only due to conservative pressure stepped down..dan still goes by the fact that the docs arent fake by the way. have you ever voted for a non-democrat?

but to be honest using "big" to describe a band isnt something i would ever really do.
Radiohead, to me, is the Velvet underground of our time.
Now, obviously VU was never as big as Radiohead while alive (or ever) but that cant happen in todays age, no secret is kept for long anymore.
i wrote a paper on it, 6 pages actually, and no, i cant post it cause its on an old computer that i may never be able to start again.
but to sum it up
Music = art
all artists embraced the VU, as they do Radiohead.
Radiohead = art for the artistic.
Originally posted by vansmack:Actually, at this point? I think Radiohead could equal U2 in ticket sales.

But you're absolutely right - I think U2 is the only other band you can include in that discussion. Bruce & The E Street are more about Bruce than they are the "band."

And my understanding is that Radiohead sells out anything they play in the States at this point. Hence why their headlining roles at Coachella and Bonnaroo were such big deals.

Originally posted by callat703:The last time they played US ampitheatres was 2003, I think. And if I remember correctly – and again, someone correct me because I could very well be inaccurate – neither their NJ nor Merriweather show sold out the lawn. On the other hand, if DMB (who are terrible, btw) play an ampitheatre, the lawn sells out in a day. U2 can do 2 nights at Verizon and both sell out instantly; I doubt Radiohead could do the same.
The last time this happened was almost what, six or seven years ago?

And as for Coachella, the Radiohead Coachella of 2005 did not sell out. This year's with Rage Against The Machine (again, terrible) did. Although, since those are multi-band events, it's apples and oranges. I do not believe Radiohead's Bonnaroo show sold out in '06 either.
Again, I could be wrong on some of those details, but I don't think so. I don't chart Radiohead ticket sales, that's just my recollections as a fan.
