Originally posted by grotty:yeah the show is a great time, glad you enjoyed it, I just heard from their booking agent last night that they were going to play DC at the end of April but got offered a chance to play the Beale Street Music Festival in Memphis (their hometown) so are driving home after the Baltimore show. Damn.
Was sweet to behold.
Que estas escuchando?
when is the Balt show?
I also picked up their self-titled 2001 record. (I always get a little carried away at the merch table after a great show and a few drinks.)
It's good too.
Got it? Want it?

Baltimore show is 4/29
Yeah I have that first one, I don't listen to it as much as the others, but I like it. Were they selling The Attic Tapes as well? If not I can send you a copy. Is not as good as the others, it is their earliest material.

No need to send it - maybe we can trade some stuff at a show sometime.
I think I've got enough Lucero to keep me satisfied for a bit now!

DC101 playing "Love Spreads" - Stone Roses… Which is odd because it's the Stone Roses on US Radio in this century and it's from the overlooked second record. Too bad the station still plays mostly turds.

I See a Darkness is a good one
this weekend I picked up
Von Bondies - Pawn Shoppe Heart (I am surprised how much I like this one, far better than the first in my opinion)
TV on the Radio - Desparate Youth…. (not as good as the EP, will need some time with it)
Deerhoof - Milk Man (not any more accessible than the previous ones, the title track is pretty cool, won't listen very often though)
+/- - You Are Here (really like about 7 of the 11 tracks)
Sufjan Stevens - Seven Swans (not as good as Michigan, I did not listen too closely, but it seemed like there were a few too many Jesus references for my liking)

But, it's just what you would expect – kind of uneven. The somgs are great of course, and some of the remakes are excellent (The Roots and Bootsy Collins on Funky Kingston for example), but others are forgettable. All in all, the good outweighs the bad and the album is good for a completist but it's not essential (although hearing Willie Nelson sing on Still is Still Moving to Me almost makes it essential).

That's oddly coincidental - I listened to that 3 times last evening.
Ever since SXSW, classic country has been sounding real purty.
