one of my few purchases from fopp, i think markie might like this one. lo-fi leaning, a bit melancholy, and tasteful vintage electronic blips.

meet through the one of the barracudas… nice choice skeeter… i even heard the barracuda "hit", summer fun, being piped over a edinburgh's store sound system on this last trip.

hey skeeter

pulled this of the The Scoundrelles website. members of Venus Ray moonlight with this group.

"Yan and Scoundrelles collaborator Robert Coyne performed with Robin Wills and Jeremy Gluck as a reformed Barracudas in London and Spain, including a double bill with the Dictators in Madrid. They also play on a brand new Barracuda's single: Don't Ever Say It Can't Be So."

mojo had this to say about the Scoundrelles…

"fashioning an album that reveals a teenage obsession with science fiction and rockâ??nâ??roll that has, thankfully, stayed well into maturity."
The Barracudas and the Dictators? Talk about fun… Any word on how the shows were?

Thanks!
a brief skim of the messages on the barracudas yahoo groups page indicates the shows were a success…

also findout via that group that the long ryders are touring this summer. only in europe of course…

What critics are saying about Killers and Stars:

Billboard
â??lo-fi yet powerful… some incredibly fine songs.â?

The Washington Post
â??[Killers & Stars is a] bleak, beautiful document… veteran fans will devour Hood's experiment in artistic therapy with gusto.â?

Winston-Salem Journal
â??Hood's sharp songwriting probes the darkness of Southern closets… think of him as the Tennessee Williams of Alabama songwriters.â?

All Music Guide
â??like [Bruce Springsteen's] Nebraska, Killers and Stars is an album whose plain surfaces and rough edges only add to the impact of the final work.â?

Knoxville Metro Pulse
â??Killers & Stars confirms that Hood is one hell of a songwriter.â?

California Kid was so ahead of it's time. All the Country Dick Montana stuff was just ducky.

As for non-Dick, GUN SALE AT THE CHURCH is killer! Neil Young's POWDERFINGER is there, as well. This is defintely NOT alt-country! It's rawkus Cowpunk.

Except for one overly cheesy song, this is the album for me.
took the plunge huh… nothing like a soundtrack to an imaginary film. but then again it was put together by talented folks.
