The Potato Thread: Potatoes in the News

Sure it's a tiny state but I think it's kinda weird how little RI is in the news. If someone started a RI news thread ten years ago, it would have maybe five posts.
they have shown up in the beer thread I know (might have been my post)
so this showed up in my local NextDoor:

Highway HomeFries Baby!
has anyone noticed the surge of potato-based humor on The Late Show, recently?  Colbert has had a recurring bit in which he mocks russian inadequacies, and the punchline is always "… is potato."

example (paraphrased), said in a mock-russian accent: "decadent western imperialists close all McDonalds, but glorious mother russia will respond with our new burger for the people!  if you look inside bun of patriotic new burger, you may see something that look like potato… smell like potato… taste like potato… <awkward pause, then apologetic shrug> …is potato."

a lot is in the delivery so doesn't translate well into the written form… but regardless, i have mixed feelings about this.  on the one hand, this cultural recognition of the importance of spuds is long overdue.  on the other hand, colbert is clearly mocking the almighty tuber.  definitely has me questioning whether or not any publicity is good publicity.

Guinness record contender not actually a potato, New Zealand farmers told

It's name is Doug
ok going to throw a flag on my own play… this should go in the non-existent Gourds in the News thread, but in my defense it's name is DOUG

fair call
on a tangent, one of my favorite Iota shows was the Gourds and when they broke out Gin and Juice and the crowd went wild
Finally got a chance to watch this and it was great and learned new stuff on the corruption
but you buried the lede and the potato plays a big role in this episode

fake potato news!

It looks like a loaded baked potato, but it’s actually a cleverly disguised sundae.

it's not clever, but an abomination
