The City of Bunbury – the state's largest regional council – had been playing a looped version of Hot Potato at the Graham Bricknell Music Shell, shelter regularly used by people sleeping rough, in what it said was a valid public safety strategy.


At Tuesday night's council meeting, Mayor Jaysen Miguel acknowledged the "negative publicity" of the past week.

"On behalf of the city, I do apologise to anyone who may have experienced distress over this period," he said.

A federal committee is reconsidering whether po-tay-toes are really that good for you, and for your kids to eat at school. The U.S. Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee is creating its 2025 guidelines, and potatoes may no longer qualify as a vegetable.

The National Potato Council, which represents growers, maintains that potatoes are a "starchy vegetable," and says reclassifying spuds would create a "chaotic outcome."
