Vinyl isn't dead yet...

You forgot to log into the vansmack account.
As John Peel famously said vinyl like life has surface noise

This new vinyl record is completely silent on both sides

except that it won't be silent because it's vinyl - so you'll have hiss, pops, and all of the other artifacts that make vinyl superior to any other physical media.

also completely derivative… Cage did it better, and in 1952 at that.

Note: this does not require a record player to be fully enjoyed

between this and "Head here to order a copy via its Kickstarter crowdfunding page… or, you know, just turn your record player off" i got some good lols.

And I have that one by Marcel Marceau, except it's a live recording.

no no, the sweetcell persona fully claims this position.  my use of the term "physical media" might put the reader on the wrong trail, so i changed it in the quote above.

vinyl junkies claim that LPs "sound best", and they don't. they sound like vinyl, which has it's own sound - and that isn't what the artist heard when they made the music.  no one mixes & masters a record, the pressed a vinyl copy to do the final assessment.  when artists/producers/mixers/etc. say "this album is done, this is what i want to release to the world" it isn't filled with hiss, pops, wow, flutter, and all the other artifacts that come with vinyl.  you'll never convince me that vinyl is superior to a CD, because the CD is much much closer to what the artist heard in the studio.

analogy: you're free to believe that visiting an art gallery with green-tinged glasses is the best way of viewing art, and rock on, but i'd rather see the art as the artist intended - unfiltered.

and if you like a layer of surface noise over your music, awesome - vinyl is for you.  personally i prefer my music without it.  YMMV.

i'm pretty sure that most readers will find this post to be a boring rehash of a debate that died (or should have died) 20 years ago.  i can also confidently predict predict that vansmack currently has a sharp pain between C3 and C4 due to shaking his head back and forth so violently (or a he has a newly flat forehead).
I cant play records in my car.
Anyone hitting Record Store Day?

I am going to try to find the Bob Dylan Blood on the tracks test pressing replica

Probably will stand in line for first time in years

If Cassius Clay could…why can't you

Although I notice he doesn't have to bother with those pesky seat belts that keep you from being thrown clear

if you think wow and flutter is bad now, wait 'til you hit a pothole…
My best music listening by far these days  is in the car

All cds

You can really crank it an immerse yourself

No distractions no kids
Like right now with love and rockets sweet fa

This album has grown on me so much….

Daniel ash in that dark spooky voice with layers upon layers of fuzz guitar

In David j’s book he writes at length about recording at rubin’s place…crazy shit

Why am I in my car? Waiting on my kid who is at his social group thing

I''ll be getting up early for it but do not expect to grab much. No. 1 on my list is the Aretha Franklin Box Set. This year's offerings are weak IMO.
I am so glad I don’t get into 45s

Like in this case wouldn’t it be better to have a $1 copy of her first Atlantic lp in mono?

But then again I collect crazy stuff too so I get it

Certainly falls into the collector's item category. Very impractical for listening. You are smart for staying clear.
in the jump the shark teritory
as if this format was already impractical for the modern era…in 2019 they decide to release a new vinyl format~!>?
can play 3-inch records only

Crosley has revealed that the RSD3 will come with a 3-inch vinyl record of Big Me by the Foo Fighters to get folks started on their micro-vinyl journey. Independent record labels will be releasing more 3-inch records throughout 2019, including Bad Religion's My Sanity, Ruby Soho from Rancid and Jack White's Love Interruption.

Not thrilled with the list, but would like the new Tweedy, Insurgence DC, mono Saucerful, 1st Yes & Roxy remixes. Afternoon event at Mobius looks fun.
I bought one item…the Dylan test pressing…spinning it now…it sounds fabulous

CD Cellar has to rent an extra cash register for RSD or something…took an hour to check out!

I had the Bardot, REM, Floyd in my hands but passed on them

I got to store at 740 and there where 30 people in line…I nabbed next to last Dylan…they could have sold 100 easy

I would have bought the Augustus Pablo but someoumust have beat me to it…same maybe with Dekker

But all I really wanted was the Dylan

Of course record has a slight warp but does not affect play…still I went on Amazon and bought another copy for $33 plus shipping…an essential lp…at the store I bought it for $23

Maybe last time I do RSD…just really needed the BOTT…my favorite album for many years…At the time one could only dream of a replica test press

Some people dropped huge bucks…a couple in front of me -seemed to be from a eastern or Central European country paid $430!!!!

I also bought a strange used lp called Silver Apples of the Moon by Morton Subotnick for $1

CD Cellar could probably stand to give some freebies out to people who stood in line for hours but bottom line is they keep their prices low….I bet some stores charged double for the Dylan (am looking at you Blue Groove)
Did anyone who queued up today see a trailer for a shitty movie for loser teens?

On brand (ie, asshole)
In Julian's defense I'm sure a few people waiting in line probably watched it on their phone
