Republicans did a great job to make this about "education" (while threading the needle of not making it about COVID vax/masks in schools) while McAuliffe just kept saying "Trump".

True coin flip. I do think the two-weeks of "Youngkin may actually lead" polls will get Dem turnout up but I have a sinking suspicion Youngkin will win by less than Princess Blanding's vote total.

Yeah, but its not Connecticut. The side that just lost an election always comes out more motivated to vote in the next one. This happens in California too we just don't talk about it because the Dems only win by 20% statewide instead of 25%. But when it happens in VA, it can flip a race still.

the thing about the Gov race in VA is the off year election…really depresses turnout
the maga base is super motivated right now and REALLY want a win on this

Because the polling numbers are different between the races? Lots of experts are saying Youngkin is the very-slight favorite going into today; none of them have Herring losing.

so what exactly happened in 2009 in VA…was living in SF at the time, so not really paying attention

They ran a dude from SW VA named Criegh Deeds – whose son later shot him in the face – who was so milquetoast he made Frank Turner seem like a cup of espresso. Possibly the worst candidate I've seen the Dems run statewide in VA in my time here.

On an unrelated sidenote, I read that former MLB player and broadcaster Jerry Remy, who died the other day, has a son with a long criminal history who is serving life for killing his girlfriend.

His eyes appear intact but his face does not.

And yes, the son committed suicide and the entire incident happened after he was placed on a psych hold but no beds could be found so they sent him home which led to some changes to VA's mental healthcare laws.
