Good lord was that a phenomenal meal!
I don't eat at too many fancy places, but that was an A+ in my book

I wouldn't steer you wrong!

you should give up lucky charms because of the sugar and chemicals… but the risk from herbicides has been greatly exaggerated:

1. Not much to ogle at
2. Not into ogling
3. Viking ship arriving
a macabre top ten, but among all the crazy news this year, a lot of restaurants bit the dust in this booming dc region
The Biggest DC Restaurant and Bar Closures of 2018, Ranked

10. The lone TGI Fridays (* only in DC sadly…there still is one right around the corner from me on Rt7)
9. Wubba Lubba Dubba PUB-Rick and Morty-themed pop-up bar
8. American City Diner
7. Range and Lunchbox - Voltaggio nixed his last remaining DC restaurants (Still open: his flagship, Volt)
6. Etete
5. Del Campo
4. 2 Birds 1 Stone
3.  CF Folks
man…loved this place -Once the recipient of a James Beard America’s Classics award
2. Taylor Gourmet
2018 wasn’t a good year for DC sandwich shops. DGS Delicatessen, Smoked & Stacked, and Beef N Bread all called it quits.  But hey, if you’re still craving a Locust Street, the Taylor at Reagan Airport remains open thanks to a management contract.

1. Mike Isabella Concepts
The demise of Mike Isabella’s once-$40 million restaurant empire happened in less than a year.
a #MeToo reckoning

off this list, but but big to my family
Pings - in Shirlington…just celebrated it's 30th year
Cap City Brewery Shirlington - Ok the food, beer and service were all poor, but they had a killer outdoor space and great free warm pretzels.  Many an afternoon was spent sipping a brew whilst the young Hatchs devoured the pretzels

Just found out about BrickHaus too  They had decent food, great rotaing and trad German stuff on tap and cool layout.  I gotta imagine that the extra 8 months it took to open (I think due to Arlington) put a hole in their bottom line that couldn't be filled

Bold Bite in Bethesda…loved this place, was the only way to pay less than $12 for a meal in that town and get something decent

Armand’s in Silver Spring Has Slung Its Last Chicago-Style Pizza Pie….never loved this pizza, but enjoyed many times with friends at one or two of their locations over the years

Going into 2019 there is still no good BBQ in DC and Valentino's is the best pizza - which is in Alexandria.
have you tried the brisket at Fat Pete's BBQ…to die for

also for a brief time I thought Valentino’s reminded me of a great classic NY pizza place, but after my 3rd or 4rth time… my opinion is they make mediocre pizza.  They were a big step above the selection in the DMV area for a long time (dc has soo many crappy pizza joints).

But I think Pete's Apizza is much better IMO  Flippin', Pupatella and We The Pizza also make a mean 'Za too
701 is closing after tomorrow night. One of the stalwarts of the last 30 years.

a few others shut their doors in 2018
J Paul's (35 years) not very good, not sure how it lasted so long, suspect money laundering
Maketo (26 years) Not know by most because it was in the foxhall/Palisades by Sibley…but I had a very good lunch there once and meant to return one day
Hen Quarter - not surprising with this review…spring of 2017 received a stinging review from Tom Sietsema. "the service makes you want to run as fast as you can somewhere else," and "deviled eggs appear to be filled with mustard-flavored grout."
J paul’s Where?!?
Has anyone eaten at Roy Boy's, next to da club?  Their ice cream tacos look delicious.
