Live in the Age of Covid19

I really enjoyed that, but it was very dark ( as it should be). Dave is and has always been the mother-fing man
He has this unique ability to really connect emotionally With what we are all feeling but afraid to say
I remember I was tutor mentoring a middle school kid in Shaw about 15 years ago..did that about two years..meant getting up  about 8 on Saturdays…one year for Christmas I gave him the Chappelle show dvd..a lot of the kids honestly seemed into the tutor mentoring program more for what white people could give them than academics..I guess I failed cause he wanted some video game..I was pretty broke so like that was going to happen..kids name was Lamont…he thought his path to make it was football and there was little to do to dissuade him… I wonder what happened to him..I think he always regarded me with suspicion so it’s not surprising we didn’t stay in touch….I kept telling him if he studied he could get a scholarship and go to college but he didn’t get it or didn’t care..I kept telling him this cause I had done it myself..eventually it was clear my mentoring wasn’t really doing much so I stopped or he stopped..memory fades…at one point he didn’t have his textbook so I went to his school all WTF..turned out he had lost his textbook and they wouldn’t give him another unless his mom paid..she refused..she was a very young woman..a single mom..way over her head…I either paid or yelled and they gave him another but it drove into me how messed up it was..how hopeless

I think people are way oversimplifying this whole police thing and systemic racism thing…but I do think the police state approach to black people hasn’t and isn’t going to work..and it’s just wrong

2 things I forgot to mention

1. There was never any evidence Lamont was any good at football or any sports ..in fact he was rather overweight..who knows maybe he was going to be a lineman but it wasn’t like he was killing it in middle school football or even playing

2. Sometimes we would do stuff like take them to museums or sporting events
I have caught zero of all these 'live' events

Dean & Britta are gonna play an all-Luna set June 27 6pm PDT, 9pm EDT, live from the living room in Los Angeles. Sean and Lee can't be there; they are in New York and Austin respectively but will share in the proceeds, which will also help to fund the mixing of some recent Luna live shows. https://deanandbritta.veeps.com/stream/events/d502eab985fc
^can also be used by hipsters on their zoom dates

They were certainly on a sharp upward trajectory in the jamband world.    I did some minor random listens and wasn't overly impressed.  But of course a fan will point to the "gotta see 'em live" adage.  Not sure the online thing complies.

Enough interest for me to check 'em on a festival unless there's a groundswell of "gotta see 'em on livestream"..

Pearl Jam’s first performance of a track from Gigaton will air tonight, June 24th as part of a concert to support All In Washington 2020. The concert airs at 7pm PT on local Washington stations KREM, KING 5, KONG, and KSKN and streaming at https://allinwa.org/. The concert will be available globally around 8pm PT on Amazon Prime.

"All In WA: A Concert for COVID-19 Relief" will also include performances by Macklemore, Brandi Carlile, Ciara, Ben Gibbard, The Black Tones, Dave Matthews, Sir Mix-A-Lot, Mary Lambert, Allen Stone, and actor Joel McHale and the Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll and Russell Wilson, and more.

All In WA is a coordinated statewide relief effort powered by a coalition of public officials, companies, philanthropic leaders, community foundations, United Way organizations, community leaders, frontline nonprofits, and individuals. These groups are coming together to provide immediate critical and emergency support for workers and families most affected across Washington State, and to mobilize committed community and philanthropic groups to go All In for WA.

original headline:

A “Herd Immunity” Rock Festival Is Happening in July: Static-X, Nonpoint, Dope, and More to Play
In defiance of health experts, the rock festival goes down in Wisconsin this summer

the "mini-festival" has since dropped its name, but what marketing genius thought this was a good idea?

also, check out the poster… looks like something one of my 6 year olds could have made in MS Paint.
Yikes
Going to concerts was fun for sure, but have you ever watched vegetable plants you started from seed grow and be eaten by deer?

The comment section was nice

The Mountain Goats @mountain_goats

the people in this audience, along with the presenters of this show, are assuring that conscientious musicians won't be able to work their jobs for a while, and that conscientious audiences won't be able to see shows for the foreseeable, and to be blunt, that fucking sucks.

Jason Isbell@JasonIsbell

Boy y’all really throwing the term “country star” around today. It’s like the adult film industry, they aren’t all “stars.” Hell, some are so broke they’ve decided to do shows this weekend regardless of what might happen to their non-isolated, maskless audience!

That Jason tweet is one for the ages!
