Live in the Age of Covid19

stumbled across this dude who goes by the name Gwarsinio Hall and his youtube show "Two Minutes To Late Night."  it's a metal-focused talk show with the humorous interviews, album reviews, weather reports live from glen danzig's house, etc.  that's been running for a few years now, apparently it has something of a cult following in the underground metal scene.

back in january, he decided to start a series of "bedroom covers" videos in which artists would play covers but each collaborating remotely.  then the pandemic hit.  they've continued the series, with money collected being distributed to the artists and support staff that made the video possible.

Coheed and Cambria + Mastodon + Primus + Tool + Mutoid Man Cover RUSH’s “Anthem”

Volumes + Havok + Vio-Lence + Potion+ Converge cover Billy Idol's "Rebel Yell"

TONIGHT:  Friday the 16th of October, tune in for a rare stream of Them Crooked Vultures full 2010 performance at Royal Albert Hall in support of Teenage Cancer Trust. Watch here: https://youtu.be/s7M21FwUzXA- appears to start at 5:00 pm Eastern.  i wonder if that's a one-time, must-watch live thing or if playback will be available for a while.

weird of all the Teenage Cancer Trust videos this appears to be the only not available for playback still… wonder if it's a regional thing.

I re-watched the Pulp set as it's really really good.. audience is going nuts for Common People and Disco 2000.  The Cure set is kinda men, probably good for the hardcore Cure fan.  I enjoyed The Who set as they performed some of the Tommy album and started out with Pictures of Lily which I found out  is based on an actress who had an affair with one of the sons of Prince Albert, which of course The Royal Albert is named after.  Kinda of cheeky move on the The Who's part…  Weller's set is good and he brings out the Stereophonics singer and Ronne Woods for Ooh La La

I stumbled on his interview with Carcass. He was doing Rorschach tests with them if I recall correctly?
hmmm $30 bucks for a year makes this awful tempting…

The Ringer has just subcontracted me to write a 10,000 word oral history of the 2016 Wells Fargo Arena Pearl Jam concert. Hang tight.
I used to own the entire 2000 North America Pearl Jam official bootleg series

I found them at a library sale…all sealed…weird find

Just not a band that changes it up enough to warrant this kind of listening
Virtual Show conflict - I have tix for 3 different live streams tonight. Ted Leo, Mountain Goats, Okkervil River.

This is possibly the weirdest thing ever. Like, if I'm remembering correctly, wasn't it like $15/show and there's like 40 in a tour? (EDIT: Jesus, I just looked: 47!) Who laid out $600 for Pearl Jam bootlegs and never opened them?

And yeah, if you've seen PJ once, you've seen every show they've ever played. Although I'm sure such "slander" is enough to rise Kosmo from the grave he's been in all day since he was so unceremoniously murdered.

You should open them up in three different browsers and try to listen to them all at the same time

my bet is Ted Leo will have the longest set, the goats have the catalog, but he was never one for 2 hour sets
well the nugs sub gets you more than just PJ shows, who do vary night to night more than most bands… i looking at some 2000 White Stripes show and 30 isn't so ridiculous…
Definitely not ridiculous at all…  $30 is not much for most people

Update. Watched the Ted show, and 1/2 of the TMG show. Today's plan is to finish TMG and watch the Okk.

Loved the 10/29 Mountain Goats show.  The oh so talented multi-instrumentalist Matt Douglas seamlessly shifted from sax to keyboard to lead guitar, sometimes during the same song.  Peter Hughes provided a solid foundation on bass and Jon Wurster's a monster on the drums.
A barefoot Darnielle was animated thru the set expressing how much he missed a live audience.  The approximately 90 minute set covered the life of the band (minus this year's releases) with some nice chestnuts thrown in to the mix…  Darnielle played a cute little ditty called My Little Panda which I assume he wrote for one of his children.  Well worth the $30 admission price.  All hail Mountain Goats!
Did anyone else watch Lyle Lovett and Chris Isaak last week? It was really great.
Ok…found this when I was feeling a little schadenfreude in seeing what Donnie Jr had said (nothing since the announcement)

Indoor concerts may be made safe from coronavirus spread, new study finds  (I have found an article that says "a new study finds" should be read with a LOT of skepticism)
first off the hill posted this with a Pic of Kid Rock (the face of bad decisions)

but don Jr's comment is on brand
Donald Trump Jr. @DonaldJTrumpJr
It’s a miracle… just like that corona is over. Face with rolling eyes

which as we know this couldn't be farther from the truth as we hit some record numbers on the daily and the article is clear that many conditions must be met…and even then it was just to lower the risk, not remove it
not a shirts off sweat and spit fest of thousands of people
