https://www.spin.com/2021/01/dr-fauci-predicts-shows-with-masked-audiences-to-return-this-fall/Dr. Anthony S. Fauci said theaters and other venues may open up for shows “some time in the fall of 2021,” depending on the vaccine. In the virtual meeting during the Association of Performing Arts Professionals, he also indicated that audiences may have to wear masks. The country needs to reach an effective level of herd immunity, meaning vaccinating 70 to 85%of the population.
Dr. Fauci said that “If everything goes right … by the time we get to the early to mid-fall, you can have people feeling safe performing onstage as well as people in the audience.” He indicated that theatres with good ventilation and proper air filters might not need to place many restrictions for performances by the fall — except for audience masking. “I think you can then start getting back to almost full capacity of seating,” he said.

hmmm i like Dr. Fauci's enthusiasm… but not sure I'd be so inclined to attend shows in the fall maybe something at Merriweather,

I'd 100% attend a show at 9:30 if Seth installed a negative air pressure system.

Maybe a good middle ground would be that IMP has a pop-up small outdoor venue to do shows in Fall (maybe even in their parking lot…well those new tony neighbors would probably complain)
DC has some fantastic fall weather
I hate outdoor barns, but if was an outdoor show with a 1500 capacity…I'd probably like that

What parking lot?
At the end of the day for DC they depend on the Mayor’s office and for MD on Governor Hogan.. no indication either will authorize shows anytime soon.. both are rightly pretty cautious
It’s just a lot more complicated than we wish
Then there is the issue of booking… major acts book entire tours notmm no one offs to play parking lots to a few hundreds
The alternative are cover bands at the State Theatre which is happening now…you can go to those

I know for a fact you never paid for a spot there, but the 930 has a fairly large lot behind the Satelite room (RIP)

People swear by that tour!!
I caught it at Patriot Center..end of 2002
I believe it was the tour ender, Charlie Sexton’s last show with Bob’s band for a while and they played Brown Sugar
My friend for years claimed Bob Dylan was so into it he played guitar lying on his back on the floor but I didn’t remember that which was sad since it was such a big story for my friend!! He would just light up telling it
I had kind of moved on from my Bob Dylan obsesion ..just wasn’t into it.. I do hate the Patriot Center too but that wasn’t the problem
I then took off a few years from seeing Bob…I also didn’t think Love and theft was as good an album as everyone else.. I was just getting into exploring different music… mainly older jazz and Latin

Hopefully the concert-listing algorithm they use is better nowadays. I fondly recall the bandsintown listing for Radiohead at Milkboy-College Park a coupla years ago…

Oh good, I'm glad someone posted the follow up
although reading this study…seems like it's SAFER to go to concerts
none of the 463 participants in the active group were infected with SARS-CoV-2, whilst in the control branch, two of 496 participants were infected

Doesn't the data say…of the x # of people who went…zero caught covid and of those who didn't go to the concert 2 people caught it?
That's not my opinion, that is what the data says

So the big headline is that if you only allow people with a negative test to go to a concert, nobody gets COVID? That's a big duh. If you only allow people with a negative test to go to the grocery store, guess what happens!
I bet we could pack 90,000 test-negative people into a stadium to watch the super bowl, or 300,000 negative people on the mall for the inauguration too!
