Nice lineup Sethy! ;D
Virgin Mobile customers and previous Virgin Mobile Festival ticket holders from the past four years will be invited via text and email to a private ?free-sale? (much like a pre-sale, except free) to be held Friday, July 23rd.
Because we have the luxury of giving away the tickets it becomes a privilege to book the most important acts out there,? said chairman of I.M.P. and Virgin Mobile FreeFest concert producer Seth Hurwitz. ?Our goal is simply to book the coolest bands we can. This year we?re breaking with the traditional format of monster headliner trickling down to baby bands, and instead we?re sprinkling fantastic acts all day long. It?s kind of like a festival on full-day shuffle.?

"The $125 tickets will guarantee patrons a seat in the pavilion, and a portion of the proceeds will benefit charity. The rest will help fund the festival, Hurwitz said.
"Putting this many bands on for free is not exactly steeped in reality, but we're trying to make it work," he said.
Fans snapped up the nearly 35,000 tickets for last year's festival, which featured headliners Blink-182 and Weezer, in less than a half hour. And charity initiatives raised more than $80,000 and 30,000 volunteer hours to help battle youth homelessness and other local programs."
I have no problems with this

They're saying Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes too. We all missed that one.
They were added AFTER Branson's announcement.

Pavement and LCD at the top of the bill is as close to perfect as you can get.

I have to hand it to Seth this line-up is crazy good. I am so happy. Really I skipped Lolla this year and was sad about missing Edward Sharp and Matt and Kim. I was supposed to go to pitchfork but relationship problems led to me going home before the festival and now I get to see LCD, Pavement, and Neon Indian anyway. Plus seeing Yeasayer, MIA, and Sleigh Bells again is wonderful as well.

I didn't care about most of the bands last year, but ended up having a fantastic time. it was great to see the few bands I did care about seeing and to lounge around in the shade (and the bar) with friends. As long as I am able to get tickets, I plan on going this year as well, regardless of the lineup.

thanks, seth & everyone at IMP! i'm looking forward to another delightful day of music in symphony woods.

MIA has never been a good live act. Lower your expectations, monkeypants.
agreed, MIA does nothing for me but i'm not in to her music either. last time i saw her, at vegoose, the fans seem to be eating it up and dancing up a storm. plus, she had this ridiculously HAWT black backup singing who was wearing a skin-tight silver suit and shakin' it like nobody's biznatch. almost made it bearable for me.

Thanks to everyone who made this festival happen!
I'm really glad Seth and company decided to focus on a ton of solid bands instead of focusing on a few really big names.

so who's on which stage?
gawd i hope LCD and pavement are the two headliners… that would be cruel.
maybe having a big-name puffball like blink-182 is a good idea. ensures that you don't have to choose between headliners.

so who will? not sure that MIA is headliner material (although i hope she is, that way the choice is clear).
