for large shows, ticketfly should use a queue system (sorry, i'm a web dev geek for my fulltime job) - so instead of getting overloaded with traffic, each user is placed into a queue - the user can see how many people are in front of them and the average wait time. stops people from refreshing all of the time and killing the webserver.
that being said, I dont know if it would be worth the investment to develop such a system since i doubt there are more than a few shows a year where this problem exists.
