ZOMG.  if live, totally there.  unfortunately the twisted website is down for upgrades so can't confirm there.

oh, their myspace has the NYC date… and a bunch of others.  with that many dates, and that many locations, i don't think this will be the full production with a full band.  i'd expect it to be raja on flute and simon on synths & computers doing the "live remix" thing (i'd be happy to be proven wrong, maybe NYC will be spoiled).

nope, looks like it'll be DJ sets… from twitter:

@therealshpongle Simon! Can you please tell us: are any of your US dates with a live band? Your MySpace lists some as DJ sets but not all!

@billtill No they are DJ sets… Some with Benji, and we might do some Younger Brother. No band tho'.

boo.  that probably won't get me on a bus/train to NYC.  well, maybe, if NYC also has YB and the new album is really good.
Yeah. Weak.
When the hell will Shpongle finally do a live set in the US?

*sigh*  when someone is willing to bankroll the show, and is ready to potentially lose money on it.  it's an expensive production to put on, corporate sponsors would be limited to non-existent, the label has no money to put in to this, they're not managed by a big-time management company, they are not known in the mainstream = the whole thing would be financially risky.  maybe someday the seths of this country will get together and share the cost & risk.  hey seth?  (actually, seth has previously mentioned here that he likes shpongle and would love to see them perform… maybe he's already inquired?)

shpongle has played at least twice in japan because an individual put up the money to get the people and the equipment over there.  they ended up selling enough tickets to cover costs, there is a pretty healthy psytrance/psybient scene.  over here, i'm not positive there is enough interest to make a show feasible.

another potential issue is the scene they come from, and where a lot of support would be needed: people going to trance and/or psybient parties expect to pay at most $20 for a full night of entertainment, not $50 for 2 hours.  i'm fairly certain you can't put on a shpongle show for $20, and at $50 you lose a lot of people (with the usual claims of "corporate sell-outs"  ::)).  there is a weird sense of entitlement in the scene, wherein the faithful "deserve" to see great artists at low prices, 'cause that's how it was back in the day… oh, wait.  that's not an uncommon perception, come to think of it.

Ha! (no pun intended)

This feels like finding out Perfect Strangers was never cancelled and now claims to be a defining influence of modern comedy . . .or maybe I'm misinformed here
