i smell sarcasm, but it is ok. i never like to talk politics with anyone. dread it like the plague. always leads to someone getting upset, and then maybe name calling and eye scratching. i loved the eighties, when you would ask someone, "who are you voting for?" and they would basically cuss you out and tell you to get your f*&ing nose out of their business.

but yes, i would love to have a beer sometime. with anybody here. i like beer. i like people. we fine forumers need to stick together through thick and thin. carry on wayward children.

Mostly my use of Charlie means that it was annoying the hell out of me that she kept saying it. And I find it hilarious that this board picked up on it and ran with it.
it's amusing to me, as a citizen of the world living in the States, to read all of your posts about the presidential race.
personally, given the huge damage that W has done to the perception of americans in the world, i think that in this election there's only one way to go. to even think of the possibility of (at least) 4 years of McCain/palin gives me nausea. Saw palin's interview yesterday and her vision of world affairs is just frightening ("we cant blink" about the use of military force was a striking line that she used many times). i cant rescue anything about her performance, and it was very annoying how many times she use that "Charlie".
I will be very disappointed if McCain wins, i think the world believe that America is a country that stands (or stood at least) for good things, but i dont see McCain/Palin as the leadership that will give back America's reputation in that matter.

Woot.

Vote of confidence from boardie w/ almost 10,000 posts: check.

Finally passing 500 posts myself after 5 1/2 years: check.

Guess this means I'm not quite lurking anymore.

It's not about Zadari or any perceived ties to terrorists. It's about Pakistan not being able or willing to do anything about the Western Provinces, a stance we can no longer tolerate and which is why the US attacked inside of Pakistan again last night. Nobody thinks that Zadari is encouraging their behavior, just that's he's not capable of adequately dealing with it, and if he were to agree to US troops in Pakistan, his already weak government would crumble. There is no inconsistency in this stance between Bush, McCain, Biden, or Obama. Of course Palin didn't say yes last night, but her answer was pretty much a yes.

So again, what's your point?

Sorry, forgot to add my Charlie.
brah. . .we're saying the exact thing. . .you'd rather just argue about it. which, of course, goes back to my original point about the quote. . .if she's parroting the same thing as mccain and obama, then what's the big to-do on the policy in question?

well, i don't like that he can be used for hipster points; that's how i get invited to so many parties.
Who am I voting for? Hard question. I think Obama is too far to the left for me on almost everything, and McCain I no longer respect so much because of all the social conservative ass-kissing he's done in the last 2 years. Crazy dude that he was, I leaned towards Ron Paul, but he lost. Thought about Bob Barr, but find him kinda flip-floppy and generally get the vibe that he's untrustworthy. Green party definitely not, Constitution party are ok but silly social conservative types.

So I have yet to make a decision. It will probably end up a lesser of 5 evils kind of choice for me.

agreed, his dismantling of manamitired was masterful. mind you, the last few volleys were an example of giving some one enough rope to hang them self.

i have many conservative friends that i have intelligent debates with. manamitired is doing nothing here to prop up his side, it's frustrating.

like i said many pages back. i entered this thread to point out that the dems seemed so nervous (even though they said they are surely not) after all the palin bashing began. i will vote for the repub ticket out of the "lesser of two evils" mindset. i am not a huge mccain fan by any means. i stated clearly the point of me being in here was to piss off you libs…and clearly its worked.

sweetcell..shouldnt you be at an abba or petshop boys show?

excellent argument.

i know that conservatives can stick to the issues, why do you insist on upholding the current stereotype?

thats interesting, i have very few conservative friends who will barely ever engage me in a political discussion and when we do i am usually discredited as being Canadian socialist.

therefore i usually sit on the outsides of these debates and notice that while the conservative debater usually comes up with more zingers and attacks, its usually the liberal who tries sticking to important points and statistics.

congratulatons, you are the first person in history to catch a politician lying.

the fact still remains that as governor, palin has significantly cut the earmark requests coming from the governor's office, and has the support of Sen. Tom Coburn on this issue.

of course, we shouldn't bother with discussing the earmarks Obama requested for the University of Chicago Hospital, which employees his wife (who got a sizable raise after he was elected) and number one fan Valerie Jarrett (who has already been the topic of an earlier post), or the money earmarked to his friend James Crown. yes, he's a different type of politican alright.

nevertheless, tip of the cap to you.

however, let us agree on something: both a senator and governor act as a clearinghouse, or sorts for these requests. or least they should be. so, these "earmarks" could be coming from a number of places. so, the state of alaska has one number coming from, for example, various departments, agencies and municipalities throughout the state (anchorage daily news says for FY09, palin, via the "governor's office," asked for $100+ million in earmarks). now, on an individual senator basis, people come in and ask the senator or petition the senator for help building or funding something, and, presumably, if he and his staff think it's worthwhile, they make a request. is that a fair description?
