Recommend some good movies!

Pride was a wonderful film.  Like a  Full Monty with more substance.  Based on a true story.
Great soundtrack too-British 80's dance music.

I'm interested in giving Snowpiercer a chance although its definitely not a genre I usually enjoy. Glad for the heads up its on Netflix now. I think Nebraska hits Netflix this week as well which I've wanted to see.

Nebraska is the last really really good movie I saw. Loved it.

Snowpiercer is less Hunger Games+train and more Willy Wonka+end of the world+train
Worth watching on netflix though. I was pissed I paid for ondemand to see it.
Skeleton Twins, St. Vincent and Love is Strange were all very good
The Drop, no dvd release date yet though. Tom Hardy is really good in this film.

Whiplash was as intense as it sounds like it will be.  Definitely delivered.  Liked it quite a lot.

I was hoping for more action in this movie. Tom Hardy is awesome in it though. Was kind of let down, but it's worth a view.

Need to catch: Nightcrawler, St Vincent, and Fury.
finally playing in Baltimore starting this Friday…

Over the weekend:

1. Snowpiercer: I'm not a sci-fi guy by any means, but I really enjoyed this. I guess I am a fan of a well made popcorn thriller, and for me, this is what it was. We broke it down into three viewing segments (60-10-55, more a function of having a kid than something that was necessitated by the film), maybe that helped.

2. Witching and Bitching: One review said this was "the best Almodovar film not made by Almodovar", and another said it was a combination heist/horror/comedy. I started watching with low expectations (nobody is as good as Almodovar, I hate most horror movies), but ended up being completely entertained.

3. The Tale of Princess Kaguya: My daughter and wife are the Japanese animation film fans in the family, I just tagged along to the theater. My daughter said she liked it, but she clearly wasn't as enthused as she was about some of the Miyazaki films, not to mention Frozen (though she clearly liked it better than that awful Lego Movie!). My wife (and I) agreed with the WashPo reporter that the film was too long and the plot too thin. It would have been better at 90 minutes rather than 135.
Caught Interstellar last night. Fantastic. Talk about feelings.
Excited to see that one.
snowpeircer - weird, but I liked it.  now on Netflix, don't think I would have paid for it.  The Willie wonaka ref was spot on.
I'm going to check out his first movie the Host
I finally watched Snowpiercer, it was actually OK for me not being a fan of that genre particularly. The part where they first get to the children's school car, or whatever, is really jarring and surreal and I thought it was really clever in the middle of the film.

It was a little on the nose about obvious political analogies, but all and all, I did not feel like I wasted 2 hours on it. Solid B-/B.
Saw Snowpiercer the other night as well. I think 95% on Rotten Tomatoes is a wee bit high. It's a good movie. I just think that premise of the dystopian future has been overdone. It reminded me a lot of the game Bioshock. It had a little of every one of those types of movies. I was more trying to wrap my head around how big that train was and wondering if people from the dentist trains had to walk through the nightclub train to get to the sauna train…. Kind of funny. It was a alright.

Also, they showed a preview for "Chappie", which is the new film from the guy who did Disttrict 9, and it looks like Baby and Ninja from Die Antwoord are in the movie lol.
Die Antwoord are definitely in Chappie.

I don't really know much Die Antwood but yolandi has some cool images out there

That isn't his first movie… http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0094435/?ref_=tt_ov_dr#director

It is however, really good.  I love Korean cinema and the Host did not disappoint.

Speaking of Korean cinema, did anyone see Chingu 2 (Friend 2) yet?  The first one was so good…

I was worried 2 might not be great… But it does have the same director so I plan on watching it one of these days.
saw pride last night. it was neat.

Their imagery is always very cool. Their videos are super cool. I love their music but a lot of people don't… It was funny to see them playing themselves in the trailer. I thought Elysium was a little preachy, but I think I can get down with Chappie.
