I mean people on the outside of our borders all look the same, so it's an honest mistake

EXTREMELY. Very much in "old man yells at cloud" territory.

odd reasoning…but that tracks (that he does odd things)

on hold pending details supporting calculation that spam/fake accounts do indeed represent less than 5% of users

his reasoning is sound: the #1 thing you're acquiring when buying something like twitter is the user-base.  the code can be rewritten, the infrastructure can be replaced - but users can't (RE: "if you're not paying for the product, you ARE the product" - and twitter is free, so…)

so if you were promised only 5% bad apples, and there is more than 5%, you're not getting what you were promised.  also, getting bots and fake accounts off of twitter is one of elon's stated goals.  he needs to know how big the problem is.

was his original reasoning that bots were more like 20%

It turns out his insistence on ending his bid with 420 (and upping his bid to $54.20) may not be as palatable to his investors - he doesn't care about Bots, he cares about lowering the price.  At $44.20 a share he had some interest and the market cap was comparable.  At $54.20, he's over paying - but he holds all the cards.  So make a move, threaten to leave and force twitter to lower their price.  If the deal falls through, both sides owe $1 billion, which would cost Twitter much more than Elon Musk.  He'll make up the loss when Tesla stock rebounds as he'll no longer be "distracted" by running twitter.

The bots are just an excuse to not be accused of being a bully billionaire, which he clearly is and is acting like one.

wait, wut?!
I know he's infamous for smoking on Joe Rogan, but I was under the impression he didn't smoke at all

His initial offer for Twitter was $44.20.  It was rejected.
His follow-up offer was $54.20.  It was accepted.
That moment when he claimed he had the funding secure to take Tesla private, he said he planned to do so for $420 a share.  That joke cost him ~$20m.

Don't know or care if he smokes or not (in the SEC investigation about Tesla, he told the SEC he chose the number because he thought his girlfriend would find it funny), but he definitely doesn't care how much the childish use of the number will cost him.
How Twitter lost the celebs
Elon Musk was right that Twitter’s most popular accounts have gone quieter over the years. Hollywood insiders explain what happened — and why Musk’s ownership might only make it worse.

Just stayed at Lake Lure where Dirty Dancing (and Last of the Mohicans) was filmed a few weeks back. Really gorgeous place. My wife's family has a lakehouse right on it.

Chimney Rock is on my to-do list next time I visit Asheville…did you check that out
Gonna check that out this summer when we are there.  This weekend we are going to check out the Max Patch loop.  Supposed to be beautiful views.

Yes. Both the elevator to the top and the waterfall trail. Great views.
