If only there weren't so many blockheaded Cubs fans.

Agreed, regarding Maddon. No real opinion of Theo. Though my dog is named Theo, so at least Epstein has tha going for him.
In commenting on their fans, I'm mostly just standing by my trash-talking, Cubs-hating, Sox-loving South Side better half. Though my one trip to Wrigley did nothing to dispel that assertion.
I know it happens all the time in the playoffs, but is bringing in your ace in relief in the late innings of a crucial game sound strategy? It seems like it often blows up. I wonder what the collective ERA for starters used in relief in the playoffs is over the last 25 years?
Had fun at a freezing cold NLCS game 1 on Saturday night; let's go Mets!
Including the playoffs Arrieta has thrown 248 2/3 innings this year. His previous high was 156 2/3
last year. Maybe he's out of gas.
According to ESPN Stats & Information tracking, Arrieta?s fastball averaged 93 mph on Sunday, his lowest since April 14.

I have for some time felt that one of Anaheim's biggest mistakes was when the Dodgers wanted Scioscia so badly, that they extended Scioscia for an unbelievable amount of time and let Maddon walk (if not essentially forcing him out because he could never get the head coaching job in Anaheim).

Would you settle for mets/royals?
Oddsmakers had the Cubs as favorites to win the World Series? REally? Hahahaha.
Space wrote:Oddsmakers try to put an equal amount of potential payout on each side of wagers to mitigate potential losses. The Cubs are gamble-bait. I don't think any person who knows anything about gambling was actually thinking bookies thought the Cubs were the best team left.

Mattingly out in LA. On to DC?

The Marlins are asking to interview him too.
Looks like he hated the constant state of flux the brains in LA had in the roster and the prospect of dealing with a roster full of kids for the next few years in LA. He needs a roster with more vets, which DC could provide.
It would be a great hire for the Nats. They have a huge budget lineup of stars that perennially underachieve when they make the playoffs and Mattingly is exactly the kind of manager that has shown an acumen in managing the egos in a huge budget lineup of stars and parlay that into playoff succ– oh, wait. . .

I hope not…..
mattingly would be great for the nats but since he doesn't come with strings he won't even get a consideration.

he would NOT be great at all.
Rizzo is a complete idiot… interviewing over the hill guys like dusty…
i dont want donnie here either, even though the dodgers mess wasnt his fault
the nats need a manager with experience but as little baggage as possible. bud black's the man.
i like that rizzo's seemingly interviewing everyone out there (with the noted exception of cal ripken) this time around

I would hire Cal… Rizzo always finds a reason not to hire him…
Bud Black is nothing special.. he is not the next Girardi.. he is not ever going to be as successful as Maddon
Rizzo needs to get fired.

I would not hire anyone with no managerial experience, nor would I hire anyone who hasn't played in the NL. It's a different game….

Folks haven't figured out by now that teams interview Dusty because MLB requires you to interview minorities?

I agree. He's never managed a talented team - if the Nats don't want him, I'm happy to have him back as our pitching coach.
