just popping in to let bombay chutney and vansmack know that i've got dibs on the hammock this time, but the cooler will be fully stocked and sunscreen and bug spray is also available.
Oh and this rumor is totally true. I heard from a friend who, heard it from a friend, whooooo, heard from another that Billy's not messing around.
i'd pay $20-25 to see SP @ 930.

asheville was $20 and san francisco was $25 on either side of this possible 7/10 show.

If Seth can swing getting them in, I expect it'll be more than altruism on their part and tix will be smite more than the residency shows. The off set of not having to travel for 2 weeks, increased merch sales, and likely a share of the concessions means the tickets could be more reasonably priced.
A one-off in DC would likely cost them more, cost Seth A WHOLE LOT MORE, and cost us marginally more. They also likely took into account that half the residency crowds were coming from elsewhere and were spending quite a bit on travel so perhaps didn't want to fleece them too much.
There might be a marginal effect of people from Philly, NYC, etc. trying get in but for the most part (and hopefully) it'll be locals, and I think there wouldn't be too much griping if the tix were in the $60 range, more at $75, and positive melt down at $90…but it would still sell out in minutes.
And as long as policies were put in place to eliminate (well discourage) scalpers it would be people that just didn't mind paying to see that intimate show. If the residency shows were on the free market, they'd be going for several hundred a piece. EASY. And I dare say it'd still be worth it.
Put a different way, if the $20 residency tix were readily available I think many of us would have snapped them up. Ok then we'd have the task of getting to NC, best case scenario you drive, sleep in your car, and come right back. Still going to cost you at least $75 in gas, food, etc. More likely scenario you drive/fly, stay in hotel, and eat and drink like caligula. About $200-$300 minimum. Now if they show up at 9th and V and it cost $100, consider it a bargin and you get to sleep in your own bed afterwards.
I also like how we've seemed to turn the page on whether anyone wants to see or cares about the "new" pumpkins…to how much people want to see or care about the "new" pumpkins…nice.
i doubt i'd pay $75.
but i also just went to 2 of the asheville shows.
i've never paid more than $60 for a regular show and i don't really plan to.

Why should you hope for the most part its just locals. So its more 'fair' that they get tickets. How about those locals of NC who couldnt get tix because of all the out of towners. Hate to say - its the pumpkins - and if those of us from nearby cities could get tix - im sure we'd go. Just my $.02. and if they play in NYC - I 'hope' its mostly locals who go!

ill hope you really didnt mean to have your post come across that way. after all, plenty of us do what we can to see bands at certain places :) at my luck this will be the same night Maximo is playing in NYC and there will be no way in hell im missing that.
I'm not following bnyced0's logic either. I'm sure NYC and Philly are quite pleased when all the fans from DC hike to those cities because bands are choosing to skip the DC area with more and more frequency.
Originally posted by vansmack:well i dont know if NYC and Philly are more pleased, but one band recently was not happy that they had to leave nyc to go to b'more. might have been shiny toy guns or someone in one of the openers. ive heard this lately from a few bands. that cannot be a good thing for DC. (or surrounding areas).

Earlier, I asked the question about ticket cost because I have noted that ticket prices in the area (for some shows) have gone up by a few dollars. I provided the example of PS being $25..also, Elvis Costello at $75, Damian Rice at $50 (w/fees, right?). This is Smashing Pumpkins. Sure they are at VFest, but c'mon the price will be higher than $20.
I didn't research other Pumpkins' prices…Is that even a method to calculate anymore? For one, Asheville isn't a great comparison. Shows at the NorVA tend to be cheaper than DC shows.
Perhaps vansmack can answer about CA prices..I have found CA prices to be reasonable.
the european shows prior to these north american residency runs were all like $60 or less.

Originally posted by xneverwherex:according to an interview with peel management, a certain number of tickets (20%?) were in fact reserved for locals - TM orders that connected from outside of NC never saw this inventory.

Last time they played here I won tickets from Johnny Riggs the day of the show… Hopefully it won't be like that if this happens again. I was second in line at Tower and they sold out before I got mine… This was before the internet I believe… WAY BACK in… 1999. :)
