Rumor: Smashing Pumpkins at 9:30 Club July 10th

Are you going to let him talk about your leader like that? Take those "Zeitgeist" signs down to the Post and beat him senseless. Just think of all the time and effort you took to try to get tickets! And for him to tear down such a cohesive unit as The Smashing Pumpkins is unfathomable! Billy Corgan is the Queen Bee. You're all the drones. You must protect the Queen!

How do rock critics occupy themselves while watching a concert? After noticing furious text - messaging between The Post's J. Freedom du Lac and washingtonpost.com's David Malitz during Tuesday night's marathon Smashing Pumpkins show, we demanded they turn over the goods.
D = Du Lac, M = Malitz
M 10:08: Only 2.5 more hours!
D 10:10: zzzzzzeitgeist
D 10:17:20 bucks that aeroplane is next?
M 10:19:40 bucks hummer after that
D 10:21:60 that ichiro will hit an inside the park homer?
M 10:47: No way theres 2 more hrs just no way
D 10:47:2 page set list
D 11:08:16 songs on pg 2. and he's still on pg 1!
M 11:10: I just saw that. I get paid overtime for this right?
D 11:11: we'll double your usual min wage!
D 11:15: i do like the idea of posting the set list on the screen like an electronic scoreboard
M 11:15: Starz get a helmet on yr in the hole!
D 11:17: the new songs are batting like .204
[Du Lac exits after the first encore, "Cherub Rock," ends around 12:05 a.m.]
M 12:28: Yr missing a 20-minute jam on an unreleased song. What a way to end!
M 12:32: drum solo!
M 12:40: omg just came back out

Remember the two kids up front who had no tickets but camped out all day? They got chut out, but tell their story in harrowing detail. Most of us towards the front of the line are either mocked or insulted. Glad they're not bitter!
They have no mention of us all calling tickets.com like 800 times to see if any tickets had been released for them.

i don't think these were the same people, but there were two teens that had the lamest "need tickets" sign ever, you couldn't read it from more than 5 feet away. they walked up and down the line, but didn't talk to anyone.
those kids were good conversation fodder. at one point we wanted to take up a collection for them - no, not money to buy a ticket, but for a marker so they could make a legible sign. during a bathroom break i saw them outside the front doors, trying to catch whatever sounds were making it out to the sidewalk. definitely felt sorry for them, they were obviously "real fans".

Doesn't that describe about 80% of the males at a Smashing Pumpkins show, and about 50% of the females?

I posted photos of those kids on my Flickr. I hope they got in. Too many old fucks at that show..

Originally posted by RatBastard:I forgot to mention that this was the same guy who was in here catching crap earlier for being a scalper in the thread before tickets started dropping. He looked like he should have been wearing a shirt that said 'my pussy is bigger than hers' with one of those pointing hand directed towards his 'girlfriend'. The chick that was with him was such a bitch I wouldn't have talked to her if she was the last woman (I am assuming she was a woman) on earth. Quite the couple. They deserved each other.
Originally posted by Stanger:He was wearing a Dusquene Football shirt (spelling) she had on sunglasses and some shirt witha green shirt underneath. I REALLY hate making judgements about fols prima facia, however knowing for a fact they scalped their extar two for $250 each kind of puts in on another level. Both looked like they could give a shit less to be there and the only reason they were was because they had to be to get their money. I was SOOOOOOO tempted to say something like "So $500 that should get y'all enough beer for a few shows huh?", but I could easily see that brewing into big shit and I didnt want to deal with that. Maybe next time I'll wear a crappy tshirt and have a sharpie. Then I can just write on it, the people behind me in line are scalpers… :)
Originally posted by RatBastard:What did the scalper scum couple look like? I think I might have been right behind them but can't say for sure.
We made it back home to Richmond all safe and sound. Only saw one scalper scum couple who got two pair of ticekts meet up with the people they sold the guest tickets to for $250 each on evil-Bey. Scum bastards had the look like they had ZERO desire to be there other than to take someone's $250. I think they got figured out by the appropriate people… :) The show was amazing although I personally didnt get into the acoustic portion all that much. I'm sure most really thought that part kicked ass. All in all a pretty damn good evening, but Im tired now and heading to bed!
