yeah, it's called free market economy…last time I checked, it was a good thing…
please, someone challenge me on this. i want to put to rest the false "it's just free market forces" argument, because it's wrong.
why don't cops arrest scalpers in dc? i thought it was illegal.
Has a recording of the 9:30 Club concert appeared on any torrent sites yet?
Have any of you downloaded recordings of the Asheville shows? If so, please recommend a couple shows in particular that were exceptionally good (in both recording quality and artist performance)?
Thanks!

SP.com has a video of our protest and clips from all around the show.
We have exceed the number of posts in the Hey Seth thread by over 100 (so far).

…and if the guy sold his SP tix for 4x the value, whoever paid for it, boardie or not, are truly idiots. this is why we still have so many scalpers…
yeah, it's called free market economy…last time I checked, it was a good thing…although this scalper as well as his customers are all clearly ass hats!
can this thread be over now? (my posts have been known to kill threads in the past)
i know its stupid and people have been known to call me "boycott boy" but when i am in disagreement with something i give it no money.
i dont use ticketmaster and i miss shows because of it. thats life. people who buy these scalped tickets and bitching about it are stupid.
definitely.
I have been checking the archives daily….but nothing yet.

The problem with tickets - and this has been written about many times - is that free-market forces are already circumvented by the practice of limiting supply and setting prices well below their free-market value.

It will only drive tikcet prices higher… Actually TM has alredy started down that road. For many shows they have the 'auctions'. Look for all the primo seats to be that way before too long. All 1st tier seating will be TM 'auctions' in the not too distant future.

There used to be an exclusive Pumpkins torrent site.

I am not advocating anything, just noting that ticket sales (for popular events) pretty much violate free market forces from the get-go.

I know the SP show was priced relatively cheaply to begin with, but all the hype and big extravaganza-ness of it would be a turn off to me..pah!

The problem I have isn't so much about this Econ 101 supply and demand business, but that Ticketmaster (and the venues/promoters to a lesser extent) turns a blind eye to it. Hell, Ticketmaster encourages it by running auctions of their own.
I wouldn't go so far to say there is active collusion between ticket sellers and brokers, but IMO Ticketmaster isn't doing everything they can to make sure that the first 10 rows of decent shows don't end up on Ebay and Stubhub 3 days before they go on sale.
I'm just preparing myself for when I get shut out of decent Cure tickets tomorrow.

Personally I have no problem with scalpers. They provide a great service as far as I'm concerned. If I can't be bothered to camp out or sit at a computer for hours on end I'll gladly pay a scalper for the ticket if I feel the show is worth it. Ticketmaster surcharges are the reason I only attend about 20% of the shows I used to, but it's no big deal really. I would've gone to see the Police but not at those prices. Morrissey I has happy to shell out the dough, it was worth it to me.
If you think tickets are too expensive then quit yer bitchin and don't go to the eff'n show for crying out loud.

Originally posted by Roadbike Mankie:It is not TMs job to set ticket prices (not sure if it actually is or not, IMHO it shouldnt be). The price a ticket costs directly or indirectly should be set by the artist. If for example SP wanted the fans to have to pay $50 a ticket then thats what they should sell for. Albeit it that decision will most probably directly impact the amount they are paid for the performance. What the tickets CPOULD go for is irrlevant. TMs job is to act as an agent between the artist/promoter and the conert goers. It is not their job to inflate the face price of a ticket once that price has been set.
