Just Announced: The Non-Mid-Atlantic & Non-NYC Edition

Okay, I need to decide on a fall festival… and fast.  Hopefully you guys can help me.

PJ20- Public On sale Saturday.  Presale was an enormous clusterfuck.  Middle of nowhere, but my wife is a huge PJ fan.  One of those once in a lifetime things I guess.

Moogfest- On sale Saturday. Didn't go last year. I heard it was great by almost all accounts.  Lineup is a little meh, but there is some interesting stuff on there (Suicice, Tangerine Dream). And its closest so probably the cheapest option.

MusicFestNW- ALSO on sale Saturday. Been dying to check out Portland. Band of Horses, Iron and Wine, Archers of Loaf, EITS, The Kills…

Voodoo- Already on sale. Lineup is usually not as good but I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE their VIP set up.  It was GREAT last year.  And New Orleans is great. Soundgarden headlining so far…

I also need to pick up Coachella tickets (the two weekend thing is annoying though…)

Which have you guys been to? Help me decide!

I'm only doing Fun Fun Fun Fest in Austin this fall. They haven't announced the lineup yet but it's always great. It's pretty laid back and not too much people. Lineup last year: http://blogs.dallasobserver.com/dc9/2010/08/fun_fun_fun_fest_announces_bad.php

PJ20- pluses: your wife is into the band, the venue is supposed to be beautiful, the once-in-a-lifetime angle.  negatives: weak lineup, single stage, hard/impossible to get pavilion tickets.

Moogfest- stronger lineup, IMO, but venues are scattered: i heard stories of people skipping acts because they didn't think they could make it to another venue and then back for a different act.  asheville is lovely, and the festival had a pretty laid back and informal vibe.

MusicFestNW- dunno anything about it, so can't help you here.  lineup looks very good but not stellar IMO.

Voodoo- it's in NOLA, so that automatically makes it awesome.  it's a big, professional, mega-fest which is a drawback for some.  VIP, if you can afford it, is an awesome way to do a mega-fest.

Coachella - sounds like you're already going to this one, so it's not really part of the decision process - correct?  if not, this might be my #1 pick.  6 stages, 3 days, beautiful location, well organized.

summary: if you're already doing coachella, i'd skip voodoo and choose between moogfest or MFNW.  if you're not already doing coachella, i'd choose between it and voodoo.
Go to Portland.
I think it all boils down to lineup. Isn't that the main reason why people go to festivals? :)
Out of the ones you mentioned, I'd go to the MusicFestNW (looks like it's a combination of outdoor and clubs).

Yeah, going to Coachella either way, just so happens tickets go on sale the same day.

Voodoo was cool last year, so we've already done it once and we're seeing Soundgarden in July here.  PJ20 just sounds like a headache and outside of QOTSA and the Strokes I dont know any other bands on that line up I dont think (aside from newno2 I guess).

I think it's down to Moog and MusicfestNW.  I've never done a venue-style festival so that will be interesting.

Currently students at Oberlin College, Nick Weiss and Logan Takahashi – AKA TEENGIRL FANTASY –clicked over a shared love of classic house and techno records that prompted them to make ³some kind of dance music that wasn¹t just emulating what we were hearing². Their debut full length LP was released this past September on True PantherSounds. They have recently toured with Delorean and shared bills with Holy Fuck, Panda Bear, and Chrome Hoof.

//MIKE TEXTBEAK
http://textbeak.official.fm/

"Call him the Haunted Harvey or the Malificent Mancuso, Mike Textbeak is truly one of the most important figures on the music scene today. On top of his own work, by himself and with his band BATH, Mike?s significance as a prophet of the profane places him firmly in the center of one of the more exciting movements in recent history. These are dark times, and with them music begin to get grittier and more corrupt. If any of it is fit to stant the test of time, it will owe much to the efforts of Mike. You can catch Mike?s radio show on Sundays from 10PM to 12AM EST on Karnival Radio every week, with a replay on Wednesdays 8PM-10PM EST."

//FUNERALS
http://funeralsfunerals.tumblr.com/
KVLT.Tundra Dubs.

FUNERALS are an electronic band from Columbus, Ohio. Midnight techno, dark and atmospheric: like inhaling, like water. Producers Casey Immel-Brown and Mollie Wells are married, but listen: that means nothing. These songs don?t sound like matrimony. They sound like gray oceans and the terrible waiting for sun. Comfort and danger, embracing at once.

The duo have appeared on compilations by Fuck Yeah Goths and the Mishka Bloglin. They?ve remixed tracks for Ritualz, Violet Tremors and +/- and are about to drop more?like, seriously, any minute now?for Vagina Vangi, Goteki, Jewels of the Nile and others.

Detroit's roving dance party and social club celebrating minimal-synth, coldwave, new wave, electronic body music, post-punk, darkwave, experimental and other lively art and cold pleasure. Radically confusing and unfashionable since 2009. Something Cold is Detroit's post-industrial reflection. Dance your misery away under the strobelight funeral.

goodness . . . a festival many band thingy that has bands that i like, i mean like like more than 5 bands that i know and enjoy.  i know and enjoy a lot of the bands playing this.  but chicago is like as far as like tokyo to a person who is obsessed with being like a faux agoraphobic.
Metallica announces 30th anniversary shows

Metallica will be performing four fan-club only shows at the historic Fillmore in San Francisco on December 5th, 7th, 9th, and 10th, and a press release promises ?special guests and events, rare songs, varied set lists, odds and ends, and all the nutty stuff you expect from Metallica? fun for the entire family!?

A single show ticket prices in at $6 ? as the band explains, ?we?re going back to early ?80?s ticket pricing.? There will also be four pack tickets (one ticket for each of the four shows) available for the clever price of $19.81. However, since these are fan-club only shows, only fan-club members will be available to purchase tickets.
