Orioles....part 2?

Nothing would please me more than another AL East team picking him up:

Ken Rosenthal of FoxSports.com added that Rays team physician Koko Eaton examined Balfour in Tampa on Friday and performed a MRI on the pitcher's throwing shoulder, coming away surprised that the Orioles backed out of the deal.

?The MRI that I did on him today looked exactly the same as the MRI I did three years ago,? Eaton told the website. "It did not look normal compared to a person who does not play baseball for a living. But for someone who plays baseball for a living, it looked normal. There are abnormalities on the MRI as there are on every single baseball player?s. But three years ago, there was no issue, and he had pretty good performance when he was with Oakland.?

If Balfour doesn't sign with Tampa, expect several others to show interest in the proven closer. On Friday, Jim Duquette of MLB Network mentioned the Mariners, White Sox and Yankees as three teams that "need closers and would benefit with Balfour closing out games."

Eaton is also the guy who told Machado on the field that he had a torn ACL.  Nice work, doc.

The Orioles announced today that they claimed Australian-born pitcher Liam Hendriks, 24, off waivers from the Chicago Cubs.

There goes that theory.  ;D
RIP.  The best there was.

Alex Casillas.  So you've got that going for you…
According to ESPN's Buster Olney, the Orioles balked at signing Grant Balfour because of knee and wrist issues. It was largely assumed that the deal fell apart because of a shoulder concern, but Olney's source says otherwise.

At this point who even cares anymore?  Whomever the source is should just the f up and sign someone already.

Delmon Young.  There you go.

Apparently the O's are no longer shopping for a closer and will take care of it in house.  They are now searching for a veteran starter…this is comical.
I'll admit the offseason so far has been less than satisfying.  But throwing money at below average players just because the rest of baseball is doing it doesn't make much sense either.  I'm not a fan of Balfour anyway.  He's a dick.
I'm with Shemp.  I still trust Buck knows what he's doing.

He's a dick who gets guys out.  It's not the person for me as much as it's identifying a problem, trying to save money, then agreeing to shell out $15m, back tracking, deciding not to spend the money, and then deciding you don't have that problem any longer - despite doing nothing to fix it besides saving money.

If you could have fixed the problem from within the organization, don't you think they would have done it last season when JJ was struggling?

Buck's not in charge of the off season.  Do you trust Dan Duquette?
yes

Santana and Garza are both above average and there are other guys out there.
Looks like they signed Aceves to take Balfour's jerk role.

One thing is clear - the AL East sees something in that guy that the rest of the league doesn't.
Well I hear he is a team player so that is a plus.
I laughed audibly….

Joe (Chicago)

Thoughts on Orioles offseason?

Has it started yet?

Like beating a dead horse with these guys.  Who cares?  What kind of marks did they give the Angels after they made their big money moves?  How did that turn out?

It's been an incredibly busy off-season of bottom-feeding.  Some of these moves may even work out.  And it's only January.

Chris Davis goes from $3.3M to $10.35M.  Quite a raise.

A raise of roughly $345k per additional HR hit last season.  Not bad - that's about what he was projected to get.

Tyler Colvin deal on hold by Orioles due to physical

His .241 average should have been reason enough…
