Orioles....part 2?

why was the thread locked??

anyway, it really sucks that BRob went to the Yankees. I don't care that he's gone…he hasn't been great.  But out of all teams…did it really have to be the Yankees?

I am happy he is going to the Yankees.  He should be even worse next year.  Going from Cano to Roberts..how the mighty have fallen.
He is dead to me.  I will be booing him.  (and I have only ever booed A-Rod, Texiera, and Ortiz when he acts like an asshole).

PISSED.

I know it's business and all of that, but the YANKEES?

Something I said?
that whats i would think . . . youre so controversial, around here.  im sure in real life, too.
According to Buster:

"Brian Roberts wanted to go back to the Orioles, but as soon as the team dumped closer Jim Johnson because of payroll restrictions, he reached out to a friend and noted that there probably wouldn?t be room for him"

Brian Roberts is atrocious.. I can't believe the Yankees have stooped that low….

More problems…

Gavin Floyd turned down more money from Baltimore to sign with Atlanta

From ESPN:

Indeed, last season, Camden Yards saw the fourth-most home runs hit per game, according to ESPN's Park Factor, while Atlanta's Turner Field ranked way down that same list at No. 18. That may have played a part in Floyd's decision, since the pitcher has indeed allowed a home run in half of his career starts at the stadium.

Similarly, while Balfour's resistance to sign may be about adding an extra option year to the contract offer already made to the pitcher by the Orioles, the fact that the closer's record has an ERA of 5.56 in Baltimore since 2009 might also be lurking at the back of his mind.

They like his OBP and the chance to mentor Dean Anna, but I agree, he's not a full time solution at 2B.  At least, nor more so than Jemile Weeks, but at least he's a lot cheaper.
orioles signed balfour for 14 million

is he really worth that much more over jim johnson?
Yes.

I feel like Johnson will be a head case this year.  Just my opinion.  I'm not a scout!

Balfour is 7 million a year.  Jim Johnson is 10+ million for this year.

Maybe they *really* like Jemile Weeks?

I think it's kinda crazy if it's true that both he and the O's didn't even speak to each other before he signed with those guys.

Edit: Apparently they spoke last week.  I'm sure the O's would have given him a similar contract.
come on now..who wouldn't want to play for the Yankees before retiring..over continuing with the O's?

the Yankees are the Yankees.. if you love baseball and you know even a little bit about the game you gotta be interested in being a Yankee

although building that new stadium was the most stupid thing i have ever heard of.. talk about pissing away tradition.

I am sure Roberts would have preferred being an Oriole.  He didn't have a choice as the Orioles didn't want him.

You know for a fact that they didn't want him?  For $2M plus incentives?  I'm reading that the O's were never given a chance to counter.
