Orioles....part 2?

Nice raise from last year's $5.75M.

Jimenez - 4 years $48M is the rumor.  Could get done tonight.

Good news.  Hope he passes the physical.
The O's had to had to do something, and since they've now sacrificed their #1 pick, don't stop there - add Nelson Cruz.  I have to think the O's didn't believe that Jimenez alone was worth giving up the #17 pick, but now they're free to add more protected guys, and their value is way down.

Jimenez is going to frustrate you as a fan much the way CJ Wilson frustrates me.  He throws a lot of pitches per inning, trying to be precise with every pitch.  He's also going to tax your bullpen as he rarely gets out of the 6th inning, if he gets there, but the O's are used to that.  You got him cheap on the average cost per year, but added a fourth year to the deal - probably makes him easier to trade if things don't work out.

I just hope your pitching coach is already on his way to the Dominican to meet with him - he needs a lot of hand holding.
He's already in camp.  And pitching coach Dave Wallace is supposedly fluent in Spanish, which should help.
I think Morales is a better possibility than Cruz.

He'll never pass your physical.

Look, I cried the day he broke his leg, but he's never been the same since.  He could barely play defense and run then, but he's really one dimensional now.  He'll be an expensive fulltime DH.

I'm not saying Cruz is a prefect fit either, because neither Cruz nor Markakis have spent any time in left field, but if I take a chance (and truthfully, I don't think the O's sign either given their fear of any question marks on a players record), I take a chance on Cruz.

Duquette listened to you, apparently.

Cheap bastard called me collect too.

1 year,  $8m. Wow,  how his value plummeted.  Worth a flyer for the O's…good opportunity for Cruz on a one year deal to shine in a hitter friendly Park.
I really shouldn't post first thing in the morning…
I am not crazy about Cruz but 1 year contract makes it a no risk move.  I don't think he has a high bar to be better than our DH's from last year.  Or 2 years ago.
Buster Olney says now that Cruz is done, if Morales should fall to $5-7 million, the O's should sign him too and make things really interesting in the AL East.  With all of the other question marks, why not?

I'm more excited to see who takes the qualifying offers next year.  Since Cruz, at 34, lost about $6m by not taking the offer, likely will never be a sought after free agent again (if he does well, the O's give him a qualifying offer he HAS to take, if he struggles, nobody is going to want him at 35), how many more players are going to make that mistake?
.
Johan is at worst, an inexpensive pitching coach for your young rotation.  Smart move, even tough I think he never pitches in the bigs again.

And he may not be the only Santana they pick up….

There's no way Ervin Santana's elbow passes an Orioles physical.  Don't even bother…
Machado Disappointed by his new deal

Pay him a $1 million next season [2015] and announce the extension before that season is over, or he takes you through the ringer in arbitration and signs with the Yankees.

The Angels GM must be the worst in baseball.  I am so glad the Orioles didn't end up with him.  Just pay Trout a million this year and work on an extension after the season.

The longer you wait on a stud,  the less chance you have of extending his deal.

From this point point forward,  compare the Nats and Stras and Harper,  and the O's and Machado.
An uneducated 21 year old making a half million and he's complaining? What a dick.
I didn't realize the O's got Lombardozzi in the Gonzalez deal.  That's a great deal for the O's, turning a minor league contract for Gonzalez into an under control utility guy.

I literally have no idea what my Tigers were thinking there. Why didn't we just keep Lombo and play him at SS?
