The America Great Again Thread

I knew they would find a home for Kari that would piss people off

Kari Lake is a top contender to serve as US Ambassador to Mexico.
Good! 👍

Let’s send them our worst!
Hate to be trite
But do ambassadors actually do anything?

The only job qualification is you deserve a favor for something real or implied
Many ambassadors are career diplomats but the cushy jobs tend to go to political appointees. Some political appointees are better than others….

Of course they do something!

Julians America just got the vapors. You better send someone over to smooth this out with us.
Speaking of ambassadors it looks like we won’t need one for Canada…

Trump’s latest truth social post about the great state of Canada is hilarious

depends on the country.  being ambassador to france or barbados is indeed a cushy appointment doled out to political allies (read: donors).  other assignments, like iraq or ukraine, are real jobs that require competent leaders.  my very under-informed reading of mexico is that traditionally it was relatively easy assignment, but under trump the gig will take on more importance because of his threats of trade-disrupting tariffs and even chatter of sending US military to deal with the cartels.  if trump needs to give lake an assignment, i'd much prefer she be sent to an meaningless country such as monaco, andorra or lichtenstein…

On the plus side, these gigs are still available to me.
So my point stands… they don’t do much
I am sure their staff do all the “work “ they show up to press plams, have cocktail socials, do press photos and bring big bags of drugs past customs
Well both my father and uncle were Argentine diplomats (only my uncle made it to ambassador) and I can tell you ambassadors do plenty. They fulfill many different roles. When I was younger on some level I wanted to be one myself which is why I went to Georgetown.

This idea all ambassadors do is sip champagne and eat canapés is just not true. Don’t worry Julian they do that also!!
Your anecdotal story does not have me convinced
What anecdote?

My uncle sipped a lot of champagne and we always had cases of Dom Perignon but my dad was not much of a drinker. It was mainly just for representation and big occasions. My uncle though…..
So can I get a grammar expert to weigh in if his story was anecdotal
let's hope ambassadors do as little as side-hutch believes:

Kimberly Guilfoyle named as ambassador to Greece

(in tangentially related news, looks like kimbo and don jr are currently residing in splitsville… after how many years of engagement?)
I mean I'm sure they 'do work' but come on now.  It's like…how much work (other than dick cheney) does a Vice President do?

I would not complain about an assignment in Greece!

Sounds like an awesome place to kick off my platform high heels, sit on a beach chair and drink ouzo by the pitcher

People like her get off on power not vacations… for her it’s like being exiled to Siberia.

Imagine seeing your old Fox friends getting cabinet positions and you get an embassy in a second tier embassy
