what drives me bonkers is that things are set up and they have the whole year mapped out based on funding agreements
and to just pull the rug out from under a program, no wind down
such a dysfunctional way to do things…
again, cruelty is the point
i've gone over the complete list of countries that trump sanctioned today, so among them all - including such must-punish heavy hitters as Guinea-Bissau and Kiribati - there is a country suspiciously absent.

ruzzia.

so weird.
so when will "outrage" start over that fact that some right grifter got three members of the National Security Council fired… oh wait sorry i keep forgetting it's a cult…
The Constitution says that Congress regulates Commerce, including imposition of tariffs, correct?  But yet it doesn’t. I don’t get it.

well they used the its "addressing national security concerns"
such BS, but it's a loophole they are fully utilizing

I really don't understand these republicans who are just giving their power away to the Exec, who is going to screw every single one of them if he gets a chance

As an Originalist, I find this impossible to rationalize. I wonder if other Originalists feel the same way

they aren't giving their power away, they are being mugged at gunpoint by trump: "fall in line, or you'll be primaried."  anyone who was willing to risk the wrath of trump has been wrath'ed away: cheney, kinzinger, romney, etc.  they've been filtered out, only the subservient are left… hence the lack of opposition from within.  only way to still have a seat in the GOP House is to support trump in all he does, no matter what he does.  but you get to keep your job!  ("and in this economy, jobs are scarce… incidentally, i wonder things got so bad…")

prediction/deep concern: eventually things get so economically disastrous that GOP reps will have the space to to push back - the rep's fear of voters perceiving them as doing nothing will be stronger than the fear of bring primaried.  they'll finally be able to say "i stood up to trump's complete  shitshow and protected your interests - so vote for me over the well-funded maga carpetbagger that trump sent to oust me."  unfortunately, that can't happen until the economy become a complete shitshow.
I guess they get pulled back after the tax cut goes through
so how long will take the cheeto and felon to defend the actions of was he ever funny russel brand?

@joshtpm.bsky.social
The only relevant political point is that Republican members of Congress are all supporting these tariffs 100%. They could stop them at any moment. Each day is on them. Everyone with a messaging bullhorn needs to make that clear. They can pull the plug now or pay the price at the polls next year.
IIRC, the President can’t be convicted of breaking the law as long as he’s performing their official duties.
