Between this kid, the clock kid, and the kid in VA who got expelled for having a leaf that only looked like marijuana, school administrators around the country are pretty much looking like the dumbest people on earth these days.

Wait, someone made something that definitely looked like what bombs look like in media depictions and a school administrator called the police to determine if it was, in fact, not a bomb after the student – by multiple accounts – refused to engage in any discussion with his teachers about it. Yes, what an idiot that administrator looks like, following the proper protocol for every school district everywhere in the country.

Are you saying the administrators were right and the kid was wrong?

If that's the case why is the President trying to portray the kid as some kind of hero/martyr?

right, because if Julian says something in a music forum, then it must be true.  what IS the president thinking?!?!?

You don't think this is entirely overblown? A reasonable person can go "hmm, I am not an expert on bombs but that definitely looks weird," maybe I should get an expert to look at this, and a professional then speaks to the student about it for about 90 minutes after school. The kid is charged with nothing, and received a huge outpouring of support and in fact told Mark Cuban that because of the scholarship offers he's gotten to private high schools and free stuff that this thing is "the best thing that's ever happened to him."

This is not the great civil rights martyr of our time. We have a kid about to be crucified and beheaded in Saudi Arabia, I wish we were discussing that with quite the passion we feel for some kid detained for an hour and a half because of his tinkers project.

Very good points, sir.

I retract my position entirely.
I hope he joins isis.

I thought that it was a little strange that Mark Cuban has a one on one dialogue with this kid?

WTF, why is Cuban calling 14 yr olds up to have a 'frank discussion about what happened??'

seriously?

a kid brings something in that looks like it could be a bomb…they should call the police/bomb squad.
and they did.  Gold star for administrators IMO

Not 100% sure why the kid was actually arrested, I think he wouldn't talk and explain what it was so they arrested him

But the 'system' did work, people freaked and someone was arrested, then quickly after they realized the error in their assumption and released him.
He missed a day of school, but wasn't lynched by an angry mob or suspended from school for a year

I still think that arresting someone when something suspicious is happening that could be a bomb…is OK

It's sad that this is a sharp kid just trying to make a cool project, but it's not criminal (or a hero)
in the end, this kids future prospects have just skyrocketed, so he really wasn't harmed
the right did kinda loose it's head when Obama invited him to the WH tho

I'm not sure how we are going to deal with the PC side where we don't want to offend anyone and the reality of the current method of using bombs to address political issues

I know it's something I personally am really struggling on how to deal with

Well, he's a technology billionaire from the same metropolitan area. I guess he took an interest in a kid after hearing the story and his interest in "making" things.

I predict the first Bond movie with him will be quite good, a real surprise, but he'll survive and live through it even though storywise there was not much left for his character. The second movie will be a whirling dervish that tonally craps on everything good about the first one and will defy all logic. The third one will involve no real bad guy and be obsessed with his relationship to a Bond girl we don't care about at all and will end with him dying about 2 movies too late. Then they'll spin off the Bond girl to her own franchise which will be surprisingly not terrible.
^^ That's a Homeland joke for those lagging behind at home. Returns this Sunday on Showtime @ 9PM EST.
