North Carolina citizenry defeat pernicious Big Solar plan to suck up the Sun
Town council votes to deny zoning permit that would allow solar farm development.

The citizens of Woodland, N.C. have spoken loud and clear: They don't want none of them highfalutin solar panels in their good town. They scare off the kids. "All the young people are going to move out," warned Bobby Mann, a local resident concerned about the future of his burg. Worse, Mann said, the solar panels would suck up all the energy from the Sun.

Another resident?a retired science teacher, no less?expressed concern that a proposed solar farm would block photosynthesis, and prevent nearby plants from growing. Jane Mann then went on to add that there seemed to have been a lot of cancer deaths in the area, and that no one could tell her solar panels didn't cause cancer. ?I want information," Mann said. "Enough is enough."

The research triangle is a great place to visit/live. The rest of the state is Kentucky.

I'd hardly compare Asheville to Kentucky. Although I've never been to Kentucky, so maybe there is someplace in Kentucky with great beer, great food, and great outdoor activities.

this says it all
In the 2012 presidential election, Barack Obama won the entirety of Buncombe County with 55% of the vote
Asheville is a city in and the county seat of Buncombe County, North Carolina

for it's physical location, I was very surprised
Ok NC you're back on the list

Asheville and the Research Triangle are nice.

and Wilmington's a decent place to stop for a night or two. the battleship is cool.

the rest of the rest of the state should be forgotten.
No love for Charlotte?

Charlotte is basically Pittsburg. It's a trash city. I'll give you Asheville and possibly even Wilmington as exceptions but Charlotte is fucking terrible.

Charlotte is now the nation's second-largest banking center, after New York, and why one out of every five people in the region now has a finance-related job..
…that speaks volumes

I agree with Jules it's a city without a soul and lot of money to burn

Only been there once. Had a friend who moved there from Charlotte, and she seems to have no complaints. Perhaps the fact that her husband is likely pulling in big bucks working for Microsoft softens the blow. I think in any decent size city you can probably find pockets of beauty or pockets of hipness or pockets of progressiveness…or whatever it is that determines livability for you.

I didn't say that: I said it's a trash city.
cosby is suing the women he raped!
classy bill, very classy
legally, he can.  there has never been proof that any of this happened, though everybody knows it did.  without proof, you are technically defaming.  shitty move on his part, but lawyers can and will do anything, and I very much applaud all the woman who came forward.
http://gawker.com/california-cop-guns-down-man-crawling-from-car-wreckage-1747954638

cops shoots man climbing out of the vehicle he just wrecked, for no reason, without warning, without words, without anything that was even basic protocol.  Just shot him, and calmly put his gun pack in the holster. then lied to dispatch claiming he was refusing to get out of the vehicle.  and the whole thing was caught on tape.  and he wasn't charged with anything.  it was called an accident by d.a.

yep.  another day.

yeah, I know. he was drunk, wrecked his car and killed his wife.  did he deserve to be shot and paralyzed for no reason?  hmmm . . .  let me think about that.
