Mittens is going on Meet the Press with his wife. Does he need her to be there to hold his hand? Does she also wipe his butt? Oh wait. Robots are not in need of butt wipings.

I'm basically pro-peace and anti-war these days and the idea of going to war just doesn't fly with me and it even makes me mad to think about it. Going to war is a serious business and shouldn't be taken lightly. I realize certain well financed and connected lobbies will do everything they can to get us into another one shortly- got to keep the war machine financed and justify paying those useless consultants- but I have no interest unless the national security of the United States is directly affected and my definition is strict and narrow (like somebody directly attacking us or about to). Hopefully President Obama will get to complete ending the Afghanistan War in 2014 and we can have a long period of peace and prosperity. I don't think it is a coincidence that the US economy prospered during Bill Clinton's time in office when we had no wars…Invariably we will hear, as we always do, that we must go to war to ensure we don't have to go to war and that freedom isn't free and that fill in the blank is Hitler and all that baloney…Romney, of course, is advised by the neocons who specialize in manufacturing wars out of nothing and will look to do so quickly and take us back into a 2002 mindset. I can never understand why we can't just let Israel take care of itself. They are far far more powerful than Iran and it is insulting to Israel to think that the US has to "protect them" or even "help them."
I have a friend, Jewish, who works for a major US newspaper and writes about defense. He is obsessed with the need to go to war with Iran (in fact I can remember debating about Iran with him in the mid 1990s). Oh of course he talks a lot about the wounded troops in Afghanistan but it is like he can't wait to get into the next war. Drives me crazy. Of course, he never hesitated about the need to go to war with Iraq. The connections between the neocons, the pro-Israel lobby, and many journalists is worrying. Many American Jewish journalists go back and forth from Israel and have many contacts there. How could they possibly be impartial?
My family on my mother's side is Jewish down the line but I was not raised as such… I love Jewish people and the Jewish religion but I get tired of this we must go to war with Iran business.

I'm glad this is now my exclusive thread to talk to myself.
ANyways Romney is flailing badly.. now "Obamacare" which was so awful has parts that are not so awful..and which he'll keep

Romney may need to shake up his campaign and get focused quickly… although today's polls should show somewhat conclusively if people are discounting the jobs report that came out on Friday.. if they are, and there are signs of that, then Romney is in trouble…

I just doubt most people read job reports and/or spend their workdays posting on message boards about politics. We are the odd ones out for better or worse. Many people still watch television nightly from 8 to 11 though and saw how much more on top of things the Democrats were with their convention than the Republicans during theirs.

MY thread. More cats.
For a couple of the guys in the Just Announced discussion:

I had my preadmission blood work, chest xray, and ekg today. They discovered that I am still alive, woo hoo! Thank you all for the well wishes. It is kind of a scary thing to have to go through, but like I said before, maybe this time they will get ALL of the evil spirits out. Besides, you left wing nut job liberal socialists can't get rid of me THAT easily! BTW, just so you all know, that was said not only in jest, but in total respect for all of you and your individual views. Kudos to all for coming in here and caring enough to share your views and even more so caring enough to register and vote. Thank you all very much. I'll see you again in a week or two. Thank god it will be without all of these damn meds!
Truly amazing chutzpah from Netanyahu but nothing new. If the Prime Minister of Israel genuinely feels Israel needs to attack Iran to defend itself from the possibility that Iran will develop nuclear weapons which it might then use against Israel (knowing full well Israel will annihilate them in 5 nanoseconds), I don't think anyone begrudges them that right. They certainly don't need to ask anyone! Unfortunately he is inserting himself in the middle of the US presidential elections on September 11th and 56 days before voting but I guess that is a coincidence as were his warm comments about candidate Mitt Romney. I guess over 60 years of solid backing for the Israeli state just doesn't buy you much these days. I do think its fair to say we've had Israel's back but hey…

OK folks this is it. I am off to bed in a few moments then into the hos[ital tomorrow morning. I am drinking my last Mt Dew for a while right now. I'd be telling a lie if I said I was not least a little scared, but I know that I am in the hands of a great doc and that I have many people sending good karma my way. I don't want to be all mellow dramatic or anything, but if something does happen and my number gets called over all of this I do want to say thanks one last time to everyone here, especially Walky. You and I don't agree on tings but I really think if we were ever to just sit down and talk face to face we might be surprised on how much we do agree and I know we would much more understand and respect the differences. Remember man like I told you in an email long ago, no hate… My final thought for tonight is to thank Josh publicly. My friend you have given me and my dad so many great times and memories over the last few years as he and I are reuniting. Never forget that sometimes even the small things you do can deeply touch others. You are a very good man and my life is much better for being able to count you among my friends.
See y'all in a week or two…

Unless Frank is one of those so concerned about the deficit but feels its necessary to spend far more than we do on the military and tax cuts for the wealthy.
Also, I can't see how President Obama will ever be remembered as the worst president. Just for taking out Osama Bin Laden alone- and as Commander in Chief he will get the credit in the history books like it or not- he would be placed above many others. A lot will have to do with whether he can win reelection but it is certainly possible he will (betting markets are betting he will defeat Romney), despite the economy, it is not hard to envision a scenario where the US economy strengthens and his legacy is burnished. Health Care Reform would be preserved and fully implemented and would go down in US history as a major accomplishment. In addition, he would have extricated the country out of two long wars, etc. etc. Supposing no terrorist attacks on US soil in the next four years, under this scenario, President Obama would be remembered as one of the greats.
Frank, I really am going to need some better reasons for why President Obama is the worst president in history. If you don't give me any I won't be able to help, and I know it can't be true, thinking you're one of those wackjobs on the right who just plain hate him because of, well you know….
This may well be wishful thinking at this point but it could happen. ;D
Add to this the electrical grid in this country is being completed overhauled and upgraded. It's the ultimate example of a very expensive project that most people will never notice and will only see the price tag on the administration.
I remember that east coast blackout a while back, and the one in India recently that knocked out power to 20% of the worlds population. Electrical grids are quite fragile and quite expensive and ours has gotten a serious facelift lately which should contribute to this administrations legacy, but probably won't.
Nice to see somebody put their money where their mouth is.
