and here I was thinking girth :P
Things Smackie Thinks You Need to Know...
I was told size doesn't really matter, it's all in how you use it. No?

I have a mantle that I'd like to set the tv on vs. mounting it on the wall.
Said mantle is roughly eight inches deep, so I'm looking for a super slim stand/feet.
Ah, deep. I was thinking width.
Reading back, I guess I said width… sorry about that! I meant depth. What you got smackie?

She was just trying to make you feel better.

The Sony KDL series should do the trick, though I'm not sure if the inputs are sideways or straight in the back. That could change everything, but both the 40 inch (says 6.5") and 50 inch (says 7.5") should measure in at less than 8 inches.
You might even be able to go to the XBR series and do 4K (says 7.5"), but probably not larger than the 43 inch version.
Either way, I would strap it down or attach it to the wall as best I could.

The most bang for your buck is going to be Vizio. But I had some hardware quality issues in two TV's I purchased from Best Buy (they were both broken panels from delivery) so I ended up going Samsung in the end.
Yeah, I was looking at a 50" Samsung that Best Buy has at $949. Only $50 more than the Vizio and I always really like Samsungs.
FWIW, the post office includes a 10% off any purchase at Best Buy coupon in their "movers pack" promotional envelope. All it costs you is a trip to your local post office…

Some locations just have them on counters or racks with other mailing supplies.
From Googling this, there are some pretty broad exclusions:
I wonder if that Samsung is one of the "select premium TVs." Incidentally, Vizio does NOT seem to be excluded.
Thanks for the heads up.
Products in the following categories are excluded from this offer:
HT projectors, subscription software services, digital music services, gaming consoles, music & eReader download cards, contract mobile phones, and mobile broadband devices. Select premium TVs from LG, Samsung, Sharp and Sony. Select blu-ray players from Samsung and Sony. Select home audio products from Samsung, Sony, LG, and Sharp. Select drones.

It worked for me for an online purchase of one of those "excluded" items. I paid online and opted for the in-store pickup of said item. No questions asked. Seems like the worst that could happen is that it doesn't work.
jaded wrote:Thanks I'll have to play around with it and see if it works with the Samsung. If not, I might just get the next size up (55") Vizio since Vizio implicitly isn't excluded.

I upgraded a few months ago to the Samsung JU7100 55". I have never been happier with a spendy purchase…

No, the 7100 levels up in a few key ways. The "motion rate" is 240 instead of 120, and it has some extra proprietary signal processing that the 6500 doesn't. Most importantly, though, the 7100 includes the "one connect" box that Samsung will use to push software upgrades to. It's their way of selling the idea of a future-proof panel.
BTW, the 3D thing was not a consideration for me, but I'm thoroughly impressed. I don't have any native 3D content (or even a player), but the damn thing actually converts standard 2D signals to a very convincing 3D. Rather nifty!
Yes, the movers coupon did not work on SONOS products either….
thats a lot of words to pretend its not an accounting/risk management maneuver
