anyone have any thoughts on the new Flip Mino HD? I'm thinking it might make a nice Xmas gift for the wife….
Things Smackie Thinks You Need to Know...
My friend has an original flip and she won't put it away. It becomes terribly annoying, but the pictures are incredible.
The knock I hear repeatedly on the HD version is that you can't hook it to your TV via an HD source - you have to have some way of watching HD video from your computer on your big screen. If you've got that, it's probably an incredible little gadget.
EDIT: don't take my word for it, David Pogue had the same problems...

My latest greatest idea….
An "I'm feeling Lucky" button on eBay!
Got $20 left in your paypal account? Let it ride on eBay with the I'm feeling lucky button.
Who wouldn't do this at least once?

i wouldn't. i'd afraid of getting a vintage pez dispenser, or a hand-made neon quilt, or any other possibilities for complete crap that i really don't want.
(by your use of the expressions "let it ride", i'm assuming you mean that after you click your "i'm feeling lucky" button it automatically finds something and buys it for you, without the possibility of saying no to the purchase… correct me if i'm wrong).

That is correct. It's like an eBay grab bag!
i'll take the pez
i'll run that by my wife (who works for ebay) and see if we can get something working!!!
Last week Microsoft asked me to start working on Windows 7 for them, which I started to do this weekend. It's a little ironic, because it means I'll be basically skipping Vista in my home setup all together, but I'm willing to do that.
It's a pretty seamless install (might have been the fastest Windows install I've ever done) and the casual user wouldn't notice much difference graphically from Vista but for more transparency in borders. But it certainly isn't as bloated as Vista - the install is a lot smaller and everything seems to work much faster than with Vista (especially copying files). I had a few problems with IE8 and some JAVA incompatibility with some web sites that were frustrating, but all in all it's a huge improvement.
But where I was really impressed (and what this web site might care about) was the new Media Center experience with my music files on the Xbox 360. It's similar to how Vista handled finding an album (that was copied and added to iTunes) however those with huge libraries will appreciate it's faster user experience. What was most impressive to me was the wall of album covers it created while playing a song. Check out the screen shots below from another users experience:
Find an album to listen to:

The Now playing screen (the album cover wall scrolls):
<img src="http://blog.retrosight.com/content/images/WindowsMediaCenterWindows7Build6801/SmallMusicNowPlaying.png" alt=" - " />
Use my Xbox controller or my Logitech remote to rate songs:
<img src="http://blog.retrosight.com/content/images/WindowsMediaCenterWindows7Build6801/SmallMusicRatings.png" alt=" - " />
Have a couple thousand albums to scroll through? They have a feature for that…
<img src="http://blog.retrosight.com/content/images/WindowsMediaCenterWindows7Build6801/SmallMusicLibraryTurboScroll.png" alt=" - " />
All on my big screen and through my stereo. Super slick. There's more about the pictures and video experience as well.

This was an interesting read….
Why Apple and Google need to get into the netbook business...
Maybe I should tell him that with Apple now using intel chips, you can install OSx on just about any netbook out there? Nah, why bother…

Oh, and I want to go first on the public release of the "I'm Feeling Lucky" ride!
I'm so giddy right now with excitement! I hope I win LEGOs!
and at some point Kosmo and I will discuss the pro's and cons of this new venture:
Why the new Zune Pass should be irresistible
The music industry has been stumbling and bumbling with subscription-based music services for years, and Iâ??ve been experimenting with them since the very beginning.
This week, Microsoft announced a sweeping change to its Zune Pass music service. The $15 monthly price tag is unchanged, as is the basic outline of the service, which gives you the right to download any album from the Zune Marketplace (an impressive collection, to be sure) and play it on any of three PCs or three Zune devices. Whatâ??s new is 10 free song credits per month, which allow you to turn a subscription-only track into a purchase. At the going rate of 99 cents per track, those 10 credits effectively lower the subscription portion of the service to 5 bucks a month. A 14-day free trial is available.

Considering 1/3 of the Zune collection is DRM free, I see this being my replacement for emusic.

Asking Ebay to adopt something directly from the Google site is …. risky at best. We're looking into the fact that there may even be legal issues with having a button saying "I'm feeling Lucky" because that may be copyrighted.

Perhaps it can say something other than, I'm Feeling Lucky?
"surprise me"
"i have money to burn"
"smack me"
"i have money to burn"
"smack me"
i like "smack me" although that may no make sense to everyone!
Yes, that was the first ting I got back from my friend who's a lawyer for another major tech company. I think her exact quote was:
aside from the trademark that Google will hold on the "I'm Feeling Lucky" button notes the [COMPANY] attorney…I like the idea. You could go with "Smack Me" but I feel your ego would make it more unbearable than the "Bo Knows" campaign of the 80's… :)So "Smack Me" definitely needs to be the Project's code name but we need something for the final public launch. I like the Grab Bag or Potpourri concept, but that not be hip enough. Gambling theme? "Let it Ride"?
I like "Gimme!" It kind of says it all.

I was going to head home an hour ago to start my weekend, but I got caught up reading Michael Lewis' essay on Portfolio:
The end of Wall Street's Boom
It'll take about an hour, and I'd wait until Friday lest yee ruin your Thanksgiving, but it's incredible. I had to shut my door so people weren't bothered by me openly exclaiming "Holy Shit!"
