Things Smackie Thinks You Need to Know...

I'm super concerned that the guitar only comes in wireless. The wired version is the only thing that keeps me from running around the room and jumping off of furniture. I've knocked a lot of stuff over, but have yet to break something. Yet was the key word there.

As far as the light, that's a cool feature, but I'm not sure how it's going to work now I've taken to playing most solos with the guitar behind my head or laying on the floor waiting for the flames to erupt!
Sadly, when I bought my first Strat in 1980-something, I don't think I paid $199 for it - it was more like $150 from some dude who needed the cash for no good.

But even then, I would never gut it to make a controller out of it. I don't think.
For some reason I thought this had already happened..

YouTube brought to Tivo

Digital video recorder TiVo is set to release a software upgrade that will let users access YouTube videos on their televisions, the company announced Thursday. The deal with the Google video-sharing site, originally announced in March, is scheduled to start rolling out in a few weeks.

TiVo owners will need a Series 3 or TiVo HD box to be eligible for the software upgrade, which will be further extended in the near future to allow them to log into their own YouTube accounts to access playlists and the like.
(catching up)

I for one love Code Red and liked Pitch Black. The Taco Bell flavor is okay. Haven't tried any of the others, including Live Wire. Anyone remember Dr. Pepper Red Fusion? That tasted like cough medicine.
not a new story per se, but looks like it's gaining steam: it's on the november ballot. love the witty pun at the end

Voters to decide on naming sewage plant for Bush

SAN FRANCISCO, California (AP) – A measure seeking to commemorate President Bush's years in office by slapping his name on a San Francisco sewage plant has qualified for the November ballot.

The measure certified Thursday would rename the Oceanside Water Pollution Control Plant the George W. Bush Sewage Plant.

Supporters say the idea is to commemorate the mess they claim Bush has left behind by actions such as the war in Iraq.

Local Republicans say the plan stinks and they will oppose it.

personally i think this is a bit much… the man will go down as the worse president ever. not sure such theatrics are necessary.
good way to turn a sewer treatment plant in to a tourist attraction, i suppose
I drive past that sewage plant every day (it's between the beach and my workplace) and I don't think it stinks enough to be renamed the GWB Sewage plant. It actually does a pretty good job of cleaning things up, not making messes.

All jokes aside, I won't support that. Unecessary and beyond disrespectful. It leaves me more shaking my head than laughing. We have real problems in this city that we can focus on - like PG&E's attempt to install fancy new meters!
it kind of reminds me of that guy that spends all of his time getting things named after reagan

in other words, nothing good can come from this

Next month?!!? I'm like t-minus 7 hours and counting! Woohoo!

Oh that's right, I don't live in DC anymore. Yeah, next month for you.
This one's for the ladies, however, I doubt they'd be as excited as I would be had it been the other way around. They're classy and all…

Passenger Strips; American Airlines Boston-LA Flight Diverted

updated 7:00 a.m. PT, Fri., July. 18, 2008
LOS ANGELES - American Airlines Flight 725, scheduled to fly nonstop from Boston to Los Angeles on Friday, was diverted to Oklahoma City after a disruptive passenger took his clothes off and had to be subdued.

American Airlines told KNBC that as the passenger stripped his clothes off, he was restrained at first by other passengers. After being forced to put his clothes back on, flight attendants subdued him with a flexible handcuff.
I love it when the plot thickens..

The "mid-air stripper" was subdued by members of the New England Revolution (they're a US Soccer team). And they did an emergency landing at Will Rogers World Airport. That alone made me laugh.
revolution ruins his fun like they ruined taylor twellman's fun
good setlist.

what did you think of the show? i heard the band has really big balls…

i'm seeing them this friday in philly. stoked.
It was a great show. The tempo was great - plenty of speed ups and slow downs, a lot of entertaining banter (a lot of self-depricating humor), and a good crowd.

The set was simple and so was the lighting. There were a few lasers and yes, big balls that were very well used (as seen in that video above).

It was very heavy with Viva (all but Cemeteries of London, I think) and the new stuff sounded great. Lost was the highlight of the new stuff for me. The only song I could have done without was Chinese Sleep Chant which seemed forced to me and didn't play well live. It did lead into a dark version of God Put a Smile upon your Face, which was nice.

We were lucky to have the electric version of Yellow, which I hadn't heard since I first saw them years ago (the last couple of times was the acoustic version). Politik was another added bonus with fantastic lighting.

Unlike the LA show, the piano was out for Chris (they used some pre-recorded tracks in LA). He's quirky enough with the piano and I see him being a disaster without it. He's definitely going to fall off the cat-walk before this tour is over. The show is about 90 minutes long and smackette is convinced that Chris is not capable of staying focused any longer than that. He did completely goof up two outros of new songs when it was just him, so I think she's on to something.

The little letters next to some songs on the setlist are alternate stages, but I won't ruin any surprises for you. We were thoroughly entertained by both alternate stages.

After a little Bill O'Reilly clip, I was hoping we'd get a clip of Fix You as used in the OC (shout out to Fico, where are you man?), but no. Alas, don't think for a second that it's disappearance stopped me and smackette from acting it out in our seats.

They did a great job in the Arena, which good for them but bad for the fan - there's no going back now. We'd definitely see them in a big venue again.
nice review smackie. i was waiting to hear what you had to say about the show, so i asked sweetcell if he had heard anything when i saw him earlier. alas - he was waiting too :)

anyway - i think you got me wanting to rent the OC :) im addicted after seeing that clip LOL.

sweetcell - if youre reading this i hope you made it in time for the last train and hope that you were able to see APTBS as i know shows over there can run late. and now i must get some sleep in preparation for another hot one tomorrow. im beat!
Digging that clip up made me really miss The OC as well. I ended up watching a ton of clips the rest of the afternoon, feeling very nostalgic.

If you do, FF through season 3, but don't skip season 4!
