It's going to be awesome having a woman as Vice President. She's bat-shit crazy and as ultra right as it gets, but I'm not voting for Carter II: Electric Boogaloo.

As much as I'm going to regret saying this, I'm looking forward to Julian and other Hillary supporters take on this choice.
If the next four years are going to be a failed Presidency (which is an inevitability with either McCain or Obama), I'd rather the Republicans be the ones to eat it.
The last time an ill-equipped, under-prepared Democrat was elected in an untenable position, Carter flunked and we got 8 years of Reagen which irreparably screwed this country. Obama would be that all over again. If McCain gets in and screws up (with Democrats controlling the House and Senate), in 2012 Hillary would be swept into office with such a mandate she'd have complete autonomy to bring about such changes it'd rock our world.

if obama loses this election, hillary and her supporters will take so much of the blame the rest of the party will not stand for her nomination in 2012

There is no easy economic fix to the problems were in as a country. Obama cannot give a speech and get the economy to rebound. It's not going to happen. If someone's going to get blamed for the 8 years of financial mismanagement by Bush, why not a Republican instead of a Democrat. Let McCain be a lameduck, ineffective President from day one with a firmly Democratic House and Senate and in 2012 whatever Democrat runs will get 60% of the popular vote and a virtual blank check to do whatever they want. Socialized health-care will get passed off as an economic stimulus since employers won't have to pay for it, and it'll create jobs and we'll walk into a new American Golden Age.
Or we elect Obama, watch him be over his head and unable to make serious inroads fixing Bush's problems, and the Neocons will rally and we'll get 8 years of Huckabee or some Reagen-clone. But hey, "HopeChange" makes us feel good. Like heroin.

Interesting that you say heroin. Because what I think you are saying is that the best way for a heroin abuser to turn their life around is to use a whole lot more heroin, so then he will really feel like they need to quit heroin.
I agree that no president will have it easy over the next 4 years. Hillary wouldnt have had it easy either, but I think its a mistake to think that McCain fucking up would mean he would lose. Presidential elections are more about the personalities involved. McCain could decide not to run and they would find somebody better.
I am just amazed at your confidence that Obama will fail more so than other, based solely on a slogan. Apparently you think he will surround himself with incompetence, but that doesnt seem to be the case in his past. I really don't want to get in to a long debate about this on here though as it always devolves into a mess.

Originally posted by pdx pollard:no, this is about people that obama has relied on for advice and are out there "speaking on his behalf," and who then say something controversial (goolsbee on nafta, power on israel, clark on mccain, mcpeak on iraq, among other things), then obama has to come out and say they aren't speaking for him, and then they get shuffled away. in other words, there is in fact a clear history of obama having staffers and other surrogates go out there and then have to have obama come out and distance himself from them. while these people may not be "incompetent," their viewpoints can surely be questioned, especially with the number of instances where obama has had to backtrack.

Since I'm in LA for my fantasy football draft, I'm going to ignore the political conversation for a day and share a travel story…
So I'm getting on my flight and I walk past the emergency aisle that I elected not to spend the extra $15 on for a seat. Sure enough there's a hot Euro chick sitting in the seat next to the seat I pased up. Damn it!
So as I walk to my seat and check the amount of cash i have to try to buy the seat, two smoking hot blondes are walking towards my row. What are the chances? It was certainly my lucky day as Sarah and Lindsay took up the other two seats in my row and were heading to LA for a performance. They're dancers. Legitimate dancers, that is. And we had some bubbly to celebrate their upcoming breakout performance. Good luck ladies - smackie's rooting for you, even if the amount of bubbly jeopardizes his fantasy prowess.

and McCain does do a good job of supporting his people who go "off message"?
