COVID-19 2020

tis true and a sad milestone, but it is a relative number as well

The Census Bureau estimates the US population in 1918 as 103,208,000 persons
figures suggest the 1918-1919 U.S. epidemic infected about 25.8 million Americans and killed about .6% of the U.S. population.

current U.S. epidemic has infected 8.9% of Americans and killed .16% of our population.

So yes, 600k is 600k people dying, but that was between 3 and 4 times more deadly and I'd bet there was massive under reporting on the poor and the numbers are even higher
Oh good point. I guess that means we shouldn't really claim victory until 2.5 million Americans are dead.

What a stupid thing to say…it is not a relative number..it is an absolute number

I mean geez ….first of all its almost 700,000 deaths and counting… still going!!

Whether it’s a smaller share of population doesn’t change the absolute number of deaths…of lives ended… is greater… real human people

And the argument about people not being counted can also be made today! Or are you saying everyone is being counted?

There isn’t need to minimize this…

At least you didn’t trot out that the so called Spanish Flu disproportionately killed younger people

You ought to think before posting such garbage Sidehatch

My sons’ grandfather - T’s dad- died from covid

Real people with real families and friends.

Not just a number.

I don’t think pointing out that communicable disease counts are not apples to apples comparisons within wildly disparate population counts is somehow denying the humanity or seriousness of people who passed away.

Comparing the number of deaths from COVID19 to the 1918 flu is, ostensibly, an attempt to put what we are seeing in a historical context. Other points of context around that are also important - that’s what “a historical context” means.
Historical Context: 700,000 people is more than attend a season of Washington Football.
It’s stupid

First of all because it’s still going on so we are comparing an ongoing pandemic’s current death numbers to the end result of a previous pandemic

It also misses the mark in that we have huge advantages compared to 1918 and STILL the number of deaths is stratospheric… if covid had happened in 1918 with 1918 science and medicine it may well have killed a much higher percentage of the population

Where is that in the historical context? It says it’s not as deadly

We have no idea what the final toll will be! Hopefully it will be about the 800,000 we are at (yes I am counting uncounted)

And I don’t get what purpose it serves… it seems to say covid is not as bad…or it’s better?

Well I am sure the bubonic plague was worse but so what?

It’s just a very distasteful and stupid thing to say

Ok people, I never said that and started off with it is a sad and TRUE milestone

they are both pandemics, but 25% of the population vs less than 9 is a big difference

not sure how this devalues the lives of anyone who died

I believe this to be true as well

I would also venture to guess the obesity rates between now and 1918 are off the charts too

it was to say they are different and the 1918 was pretty freaking bad
Again. For the third time. The current pandemic is ongoing. Covid is not done with us.

So I fail to see the value in comparing death toll rates between the two.

The way things are going there will be many more deaths in America from covid this year than there were last year.

I fear people have become numb.

Maybe there is also an element of liberals that no longer want to talk about numbers cause at some point it’s likely more people will have died from covid in America under President Biden than Trump.

I really don’t hear anyone calling out Biden on this covid handling. People just blame the unvaccinated.

Anyways am out on this

Remember the Demon Seed 'dr' and her merry band of 'drs' who gave a 'performance' (billed as America's Frontline Doctors) in front of the SCOTUS and …welp may I reintroduce you to Florida’s new Surgeon General, Dr. Joseph Ladapo,

apparently you can get a  $90 for a telemedicine appointment with one of their "doctors" you can get some dewormer
So should we crowdfund so we can get Julian to call them?

I didn't realize they were still in the grift game, but operators are available to take your call (and you $)

Is The Worst Over? Modelers Predict A Steady Decline In COVID Cases Through March

Americans may be able to breathe a tentative sigh of relief soon, according to researchers studying the trajectory of the pandemic.

The delta surge appears to be peaking nationally, and cases and deaths will likely decline steadily now through the spring without a significant winter surge, according to a new analysis shared with NPR by a consortium of researchers advising the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
In the middle of the View airing today
Sunny and Ana have been asked to leave the ABC studio because they tested positive for COVID.

Okay, cool. So will there still be mask requirements in the Vegas casinos in January? Odds?
