COVID-19 2020

I'd trade 2 hours of my daily commute for ever having to see my co-workers ever again.  Fuck-em.
I just don’t know enough to understand Covid19

I hope it’s losing its potency and spreads less easily than previously thought

The Italian health authorities have discredited that physician’s statements but who the hell knows

I think the news-cycle has passed Covid… Time for bigger issues (which I agree with), but will also likely be forgotten in a few weeks.
Bigger issues than 150,000 dead in two months and millions of infected people?

I agree the news cycle passes everything by but that says more about us and our society than the relative bigness of an issue

I know a woman who lives in a retirement community in Silver Spring area…her two neighbors- one next to her apartment and one in front have died from Covid19..last I heard over 30 people in the complex (it’s very big) had died from covid

We may wish to ignore it and carry on…again that says more about us than the issue..I guess it’s just capitulation..we can’t figure out how to deal with it so let’s ignore it…a. colossal failure

100's of years of systemic racism in the US is a bigger issue for me than Covid… not saying Covid isn't a big issue, but this is bigger in my humble opinion.

For a change of scenery after three months of not leaving our neighborhood, we went to western PA last week to see my parents. They live in a county where there have been approximately 10 cases. The town will most likely cease to exist if current conditions economically continue. This is just one example of extreme measures that make absolute zero sense. I'm not saying every area should open up and I think that's extremely irresponsible, but this virus is killing people in many other ways that just sickness (which has been covered in this thread before).

Fully agree.
Obviously it’s all about equilibrium

And a person can walk and chew gum at same time

The idea we should ignore covid19 or move on because of systemic racism is fill in blank

We can’t wave some magic wand or enact a ten point plan to end systemic racism

It’s a cultural issue and culture is the hardest thing to change.

We can recognize the issue and work to address it but any real change will be here long after we are all dead.

I plan on driving to see my family next month in upstate NY. My brother remains unemployed after being laid off 2.5 months ago. He lives in a county with 100K people. So far, 133 cases, 0 deaths, and 9200 private sector jobs lost in April (alone).
new way to ride elevators

My wife is going to hate this news if it means she'll have to go into the office on a regular basis.

I kid, partially.
Wow nothing on this thread in five days

Says a lot

Anyways it seems like the US has finally broken the back of this scourge

About 300 dead from it reported yesterday..lowest number since late March..

It only took 112,000 lives (reported) + around 50,000 unreported, snd shutting down the nation with tens of millions losing their jobs (most I think will get them back) but we finally seem to have things somewhat under control

I assume people will keep dying from it but in decreasing numbers

How badly was this bungled? Boggles the mind…they told people not to wear face masks for months!
Not to be a Debbie Downer, but i wouldn't say broken the back yet. 373 yesterday, but that's a Sunday count. I'd expect double that on weekdays this week.

Hopefully we are not opening too much too soon. And hopefully people will wear masks indoors, everywhere. And stay 6+ feet apart. Some communities seem to take the mask and distance things more seriously than others.

I think there's also going to be lots of crazy ass modifications to the school experience in the Fall. My kid is already bitching about it.

there is some serious pandemic fatigue going on.  i live in the kind of place that you'd think would adhere to medical recommendations (this region has been traumatized by the early days of the pandemic), but at this weekend's BLM protest folks were not maintaining 6 feet - and not even trying.  everyone did have a mask on and it was outside, so overall the risk was low… but organizers made of a point of asking everyone to keep 6' apart, and that never happened.
