Welp, it's been real! On the bright side looks like like I'll go back to picking up Frankly Pizza weekly.
PG County schools going virtual starting 12/20 through 1/14
i'm supposed to attend a homebrew club party/bottle-share tonight and everyone has started to get nervous. it was supposed to be a mix of indoor and outdoor, and now the indoor portion has been jettisoned (yeay thermals!). still a chance the whole thing might be shitcanned at the last second. did i mention ugh?
alcohol kills covid….have you not learned anything

judging by all the unmasked people at the grocery store this morning, people dgaf.
Here in Arlington by East Falls Church masking is pretty predominant… and at grocery stores 90% plus

I mean the UK had over 90,000 cases and 111 deaths today and it’s been like that for the past few weeks in Europe, right?
That seemsa very low death rate for so many cases. are you saying thats evidence thay Omicron os not very deadly in a highly vaccinated population?

That’s my armchair take…but I’ll still mask at stores.
Still a lot of risk for ‘at-risk” populations
Death surges trail cases by a couple of weeks.
The way to think about this is to count preventable deaths vs inevitable deaths. IMO nearly all 111 of those were preventable, based on vaccination, isolation and masking.

But would be a welcome trend if it stays that way
Also, MD hasn't reported any COVID data in over a week because their system was hacked. But Twitter is reporting this:
We remain in the dark in Maryland about the extent of the current Covid surge..but this is probably a clue. DC with its highest number new cases ever

I guess I was saying I am not going to freak out….yet
Now if I was unvaccinated or lived somewhere with real low vaccinated rates I would probably freak out
There was a great article about DHS Secretary Becerra saying something about how we need to focus on severity of cases and not “new cases”
My concern about letting Covid19 variants burn through populations is rise of new mutations like what if we get one that spreads really easily AND is super deadly… seems like if viruses weaken this is unlikely?

The unvaccinated are freaking out, but not necessarily what you would have them freaking out about.
I spoke to my mom yesterday, and she told me she's "thinking of moving to Florida, because Biden is going to put all of the unvaccinated in concentration camps (that Obama built.)"
I reminded her that Florida is part of the United States, and posed the question that "wouldn't they have the camps in Florida too?" And she said that "No, Governor Desantis is very strong, and he would never allow that to happen."
We moved on to talking about how it looks like it's going to be 60 here on Xmas, and I mentioned global warming. And she replied, "Oh I don't believe all that crap, it's all man-made."
And I said "Of course it's man-made, we've been doing all the wrong things for many years." And she replied, "No, I'm talking about the giant machine in Alaska they control the weather with."
We then moved on to talking about her aging dog and all of his vet bills, and the new false teeth she finally sprung for. Though I did make one last pitch for her to get the vaccine by mentioning all the unvaccinated people on their death beds who were belatedly begging for the vaccine. She replied that she won't get sick because she takes her vitamins and has stopped sharing the elevator with anyone in her building.
Anyway, your concern about a more deadly mutation ripping through the population is one I share. I guess great minds think alike, or watch Station Eleven.

They live in Florida and control the space lasers from there (thankfully Desantis hasn't cracked down on this yet)
Shit…apparently the Mossad is reading this and I'm a marked man, this may be my last post
Larry Hogan.
So MD now has one confirmed case since Dec 4…
