any new vaccine will be tested. either most, or all, of the side-effects will be known. if the vaccine is available, the side-effects are better than the disease.
you know what definitely has nasty side-effects? COVID-19.
i'll take my chances with the vaccine. can't wait for the side-benefit of being able to go out and enjoy many aspects of normal life again.

It was an honest question
You think they can rush a vaccine out in October and have fully tested for side effects say a year after taking it?
Usually vaccines take years to develop so I think it’s fair to be concerned about vaccines developed in 6 months..

it's a perfectly valid question. apologies if my reply came across otherwise.
we won't have 100% certainty that any vaccine is completely safe. there will be a risk with taking a rushed vaccine. but in my estimation, the risk will be much lower than the risks associated with contracting COVID-19. one could avoid both risks by continuing to shelter at home, but i'm willing to accept the risk of a rushed vaccine in return for the ability to go about in public. i'll probably still wear a mask, tho.

It’s entirely possible that some side effects could be quite nasty. Worse than the virus? Unlikely, but very undesirable nonetheless.

I think the side effects from vaccine could be worse than covid given many people don’t experience any symptoms from covid.
Let’s say I wouldn’t have experienced symptoms or adverse impacts- yes, impossible to know- and I get vaccine and have serious side effects.
This has to be balanced by the fact I wouldn’t spread it if vaccine was successful in preventing me from getting it.
On the other hand I have hardly gone out in four months and plan to keep it that way.
How can they test for future impact from vaccine if they basically have it out in a few months?

What side effects do you think there will be? What side effects are you afraid of?

I have no idea…could be anything
How would I know?
Like any medical products I put in my body, much less my kids, I will want to be sure it’s not going to cause harm.
Is what I am saying unusual? Asking it be seriously tested seems reasonable

The side effects scare me less than the anti-vaccine folks who will refuse to take it.

Boy you guys like to live dangerous!
I am sure we will take the vaccine but like everything you stick in your body a little due diligence is a good idea

well you as an American citizen are covered by damage caused by vaccines and seek redress in the 'vaccine court'
https://www.theatlantic.com/health/archive/2019/05/vaccine-safety-program/589354/
U.S. government has, over the past three decades, paid more than $4 billion to people who claim to have been harmed by vaccines. So you could turn that side-effect into a windfall?
(FYI..this is not an anti-vaxx article)

Drugs and vaccines are two very different things. Very different. Drugs work on different pathways and are often recognized by your body as "poison", even while being effective treatments.
Vaccines will either work to create immunity or they won't. Many vaccines will cause swelling or redness at the injection site. Every vaccine carries a universal warning:
"People sometimes faint after medical procedures, including vaccination. Tell your provider if you feel dizzy or have vision changes or ringing in the ears. As with any medicine, there is a very remote chance of a vaccine causing a severe allergic reaction, other serious injury, or death."
That's pretty generic stuff, and honestly could be applied to peanuts as easily as a shot.
Also, the flu vaccine (which I suspect the COVID vaccine will be similar to) comes in Live Vaccine and Inactivated Vaccine flavors. Live vaccines are generally regarded as safe and tend to be more effective. Live vaccines contain deactivated viruses which cannot give you the disease that you are trying to build immunity to.
You can read the side-effects of most major vaccines here:

Also, I got 2 rounds of the shingles vaccine during the pandemic. I was laid up for 1-2 days with a low grade fever / chills and fatigue. Really messed with my mind re: COVID!

This is very encouraging, but it's too early to call it a done deal:

With Walmart and Sam's club now requiring masks, I suspect one will see paparazzi level of people standing around store entrances with smartphones in hand…

yes, there have been dozens of drugs with side-effects… vs. thousands that have had none. stop playing up the vaccine risks. you're all one step away from joining a "mom's against gov't vaccine brain-control" google group…

It’s reasonable for me to be cautious if a new vaccine is produced in record time: a few months

Faster now because we're using modern technology.
