COVID-19 2020

"You can't plan for something that hasn't happened yet" - Betsy Devos, when asked what she would do if there is an outbreak of Covid in schools. There is no plan to protect our children.

Cue every disaster manager in the country screaming into a pillow
I mean, isn't "something that hasn't happened yet" embedded in the definition of "plan"?

wait, the CDC is highly politicized?

maybe i'm missing something here, but so far the CDC has been offering solid scientific advice.  it's the white house that has been muzzling it - suppressing reports, preventing its reps (like Fauci) from speaking, etc.  based on what i've seen and read, we'd be MUCH better off if we followed CDC advice - but trump has consistently said "nah".
She lives by the credo "If you fall off a turnip truck, you get back on."

I don't think the implication was that the CDC is policical…more that it's become a culture war to take the red pill or the blue pill on this
Ok…if we can't get testing done one way…another city's aproach…test their shit

officials in Elko County did a sewage survey and think that 2,000 (of the county's ~20,000 residents) are actively infected with COVID-19, @ElkoDaily  reports. Last night, Elko County reported 151 active infections, 288 cases total.

a friend of the missus works for the local water authority, and says that they've been testing waste water for months now.  the virus load in the waste water is a leading indicator of outbreak.

Perhaps, but it also makes a fantastic roast chicken.

Source? I hate DeVos as much as anyone but where’d that come from?

Well apparently I was duped…it sounded real and someone put it in quotes …my bad

Eric Feigl-Ding@DrEricDing
Because of the controversy of the DeVos planning quote, I’ve deleted the earlier post. But it’s origins was from another poster (comment #3 below), & he had seemed to paraphrase it from this Dana Bash exchange. It carries similar meaning but because it’s not exact, I’ve removed.

4) screenshot of the original source of the quote for record - now deleted by OP. It’s a bit exaggerated compared to the actual statement above. But Devos clearly doesn’t have a plan at all.

2) The quote was from another source, paraphrased. It seems adapted from these screenshot paragraphs. Dana Bash asked if Devos what if there is a flare up, and then Bash asked if Devos has a plan & she punted both times, saying someone will figure it out. https://washingtonpost.com/education/2020

Beware of social butterflies: researchers have estimated in recent studies that some 10 to 20 percent of the infected may be responsible for 80 percent of all cases

I just heard Redfield say he expects multiple vaccines later this year…then I read this:

Yeah, sure seems like we're toast.
Can't read the entire article - even incognito - but the first 3 paragraphs are very troubling.

Maybe not: Immune cells may recognize the coronavirus years later
I watch very little live TV and haven’t for the past decade
So my exposure to TV advertising has been limited

But these COVID ads … yikes what a tightrope to scale to not come off out of touch and not feeling dystopian

Uber’s ad Just struck me as it ended with
No mask, no ride
yikes….
Donald J. Trump @realDonaldTrump
We are United in our effort to defeat the Invisible China Virus, and many people say that it is Patriotic to wear a face mask when you can’t socially distance. There is nobody more Patriotic than me, your favorite President!

So is he now going to say that he's been promoting the mask the whole time
do we think this is because of the bad polling

I will say, he does have a gift for getting under the skin of all the people who aren't MAGA
