Musicological banter

another new (new to me at least) venue in DC

https://www.facebook.com/slashrun/

Slash Run is a rock n’ roll burger joint, bar and music venue located in the Petworth neighborhood of Washington, DC serving a variety of wildly delicious burgers, wings, fries and more from the kitchen plus a wide variety of local craft-beers and a massive whiskey list at the bar

Didn't stay for Weezer
they did play buddy holly first as we were leaving and felt I got 'the full Weeze' that I needed
I think I made the right choice as I didn't need an ironic cover of "Africa" by toto either

not sure we needed this either…Toto to release cover of Weezer’s “Hash Pipe”
love me some =w=. bought the urban outfitters only green vinyl edition of the cover of Africa. if that show would have been in DC or Maryland, would have been the show of the week for me.

=w= > DC > Urban Outfitters > Maryland > vinyl > that cover of Africa

EDIT:

I like Toto's cover better, but I'm not sure I'm complimenting there…..

=w= greater than an entire chain of clothing, accessories, and record stores?  Sure as Kilimanjaro rises, you are on the drugs.
It's probably been 15 years since I bought something from Urban Outfitters and much longer since I bought vinyl.

I hear =w= probably once a week, definitely once every two weeks.

Tough to say.  They were everywhere in LA when I was in college in the early 90's and hard not to see.  Some of their early shows were great with very few people around, but of course their catalog was limited.

Maybe the Pinkerton tour show at the 930 in 96 or 97?  I was a big fan of that as a second album.  Totally different sound and vibe, which I loved.

If not that show, when they hit the road again in like 2005 at the Warfield in SF.

I will say though, that I can't remember a bad show at the Joint in Vegas.  Always worth the trip for the right band.
This week's 99% Invisible tells the backstory of the cover art of Devo's Q: Are We Not Men? A: We Are Devo! including an interview with Chi Chi Rodriguez.

Oliver Tree . . . is the, new Beck.
So NYC decides to name some streets after some hip-hop legends…Wu Tang and Biggie

but unless I'm unaware…what about the 2 decades of rap pioneers that came out of NYC and changed music forever?
seems weird to leave out Grandmaseter flash and the furious five, Kurtis Blow, Run DMC, PE, Tribe, LL, EricB & Rakim and a long list of others to give streets to late 90's innovators who would be nothing without all these great NY artists.
I am aware of Adam Yauch Park

Oh and Woodie Guthrie got one too…long overdue

Edit…did a little more research…so not totally left out

I like this one the most

It's been my guess for years that SNL's musical guests have been booked by Lorne Michaels' grandchildren.
Talk about making a mountain out of a mole hill
