Musicological banter

While it maybe be hip the evidence is there and that review is well written

Thing is while the first single from that album "Ready To Go Home" is a wobbly mess of an album track, handed over to Terry Farley it gets turned into a Screamadelica era stomper.  https://youtu.be/UNte1v2NiCg

oh well we will always have XTRMNTR and Vanishing Point/Echo Dek to listen to…
Just started The Cure stream and it’s sounding great
This Cure show is so good, Robert is actually having fun at the end of the set.
That Iowa Selzer poll is like a bomb going off. If Iowa is merely Trump +5 (much less what she’s actually polled), the election is getting called for Harris by 9am EST on Wednesday.
Nauseously optimistic.

ok i'll pipe down about The Cure show on Friday after these observations.

At 65 Robert's voice is sounding better than ever.

The first part being of course all of "Songs Of A Lost World" flew by ending with just a ripping Reeves Gabrels guitar solo.

This run of songs in the hits section of show was amazing

Fascination Street
A Night Like This
Push
In Between Days
Just Like Heaven

Not to mention of course the encore where Robert actually cracked a smile, was singing the synth lines and just clearly having fun.

Lullaby
The Walk
Friday I'm in Love
Close to Me
Why Can't I Be You?
Boys Don't Cry

and for the diehards the songs in honor of the 45th anniversary of Seventeen Seconds was a real treat

my fanciful thinking over the week was Seth pulling off the I.M.P. trifecta of a Club/Lincoln, The Anthem, Merriweather run of shows.  But, hopefully it would be a two night stand at Merriweather.
Are there any indications the Cure is touring the US in 2025?

I feel like they were just over here…and Robert tours about every 5 to 7 years at most.

If he wants to do it the demand is there for sure…
Based on recent history 2025 would be Europe and the US in 2026, they are doing around 50 dates a year at this point.

I don’t this is quite accurate but hopefully you are right

The hope is Robert wants to seize on the new album to tour…he is certainly promoting it with interviews everywhere
And since he is not getting younger may feel like doing it again

I agree the Cure has one of the best live acts going…

I just think he is perfectly content chilling with Mary at his manor tending to the sheep.

Had it on in the background last night
Wow, the sound is just fantastic…they had it dialed in.  So crisp, can't believe this was from a live show

and yes that Reeves solo was amazing, just caught me by surprise and was very pleasing and fitting
Really liked some of the updated 'reworking' of some of the classics too, wasn't a note for note rendition
Will Nemahsis become the next Chappell Roan?  She is a young Canadian singer of Palestinian heritage who is currently bursting on to the scene and what a voice alomg glossy pop production.  Just putting this out so I can be first, when she really breaks through  :D

speaking of, I quite enjoyed her SNL performance
Open your eyes, open your imagination
this is great!

Eric Alper

In 1977, David Bowie released an album called Low.
Later that year, Nick Lowe responded by releasing an album named Bowi.

I have that Lowe..it’s not an album but a ep 45..even has a song that seems to reference Bowie “I love the sound of breaking glass”
Oh Grammy's never change  ;D

Best Rock Performance and Record Of The Year -  The Beatles "Now And Then"  - I had completely forgot this existed…

Best New Artist - Khruangbin  -  Yes I'm fully aware of Fountains Of Wayne getting this nomination for their third album

but on a positive note a couple nomination for the Kim Gordon album

and looks like The Black Puma streak has come to end…
