Musicological banter

Love this cause I hate that song
The Best Band From Every State

an interesting read….DC got no mention and I think GWAR should have won for VA
Grateful Dead >>> Beach Boys.

Come at me.

Also, The Shaggs FTW!

OAR is funny, but actually was Beach House…pretty good write up for MD too

Contemporary Baltimore is a hotbed of musical innovation that's bursting with politically urgent hip-hop, punk, and dance music, and a case could be made for Wye Oak, Lower Dens, or Future Islands and some of the other long-running indie bands that have broken into the mainstream – early R&B innovators and doo-wop pioneers The Orioles, named after the state bird, also deserve a listen. It's Victoria Legrand and Alex Scally's dream-pop project, however, that earn a nod for their prolific output and ability to develop their distinctive sound without betraying their style.

Releasing Depression Cherry and Thank Your Lucky Stars within two months of each other in 2015 was an excellent, respectable troll move that sandwiched a bizarre "fake song hoax," all of which sent the music press into a typing frenzy. Fun!

Many accolades bestowed upon Baltimore's Turnstile for their 2021 release- i. e. #1 album -Brooklyn Vegan
I frickin hate The Beach Boys
Is it just me or does Baltimore music scene put a hurting on DC?

Oh you mean in the 80s/90s?

I mean today
Kinda hard to have a scene in the middle of a pandemic  ;D

But there are some DC area based bands I’m aware of making waves to ripples

Bartees Strange, Ex Hex, Bad Moves,  Des Demonas, Jay Diggs, Too Free

Snail Mail came up through the local scene, but is based in Brooklyn now

I believe there was number of female fronted bands along the lines of Priests, that scene may have faded out though… see Sister Polygon records

Snail Mail ain't DC.  She is Howard County-Mount Hebron area, so I'd consider that more Baltimore than DC.  Sorry, I'm a little testy since DC had to glom in on our airport and tried to shove the Football Team down our throats when the Colts left, and also stole our Bullets. FDC.
Airport being called BWI is ridiculous

It’s practically in Baltimore!

there are a few decent tunes, but I 100% agree and have never got the adoration…even putting them on the same level as the beatles

Koz named a few…but even that list is a stretch (ex hex for sure…priests were about to break, but that never happened)
Hmm. My neighbor hosts a weekly rehearsal of his Beach Boys cover band (or Journey if that's what you prefer). I guess I'll cancel the surprise forum meetup at his house…
