Musicological banter

Talk about changing the direction of one's sound… Corinne Bailey Rae has totally re-invented herself from popish soul to full on Glam/Punk Power trio ala Hole/L7.

I saw this mentioned elsewhere and the Wikipedia confirms this but, this is actually a return to what she started out doing as her first group was called Helen and was compared to Veruca Salt.

Regardless, this shift if sound could result in a very interesting show from her

Oasis reunion pushed back to 2025

Noel has referred to Liam as being the tambourine player
That’s horrible

You owe me
welp since there is no photological banter thread

This is just such a great shot
Seems like it's going to be harder and harder for smaller UK bands to ever tour the US in the future.  A band posted they paid $5800 for a US visa with more fees to come.

oh wait they are all probably socialists anyways, who needs them on our shores…

What!
are visa fees that high to come from UK to US?  that doesn't sound right, is there some sort of 'entertainment visa' that is more expensive
I can see transit (especially if they are bringing all their gear), lodging and food being the bulk of the cost, but if you have add $6k …yikes
Think this is accurate and at one point earlier in the year there were proposals to raise them even higher, think that one was backed off from.

In February Simon Raymonde of Cocteau Twins fame, and obviously others, who now runs Bella Union stated they were going to raise the cost of a visa from currently approximately $500 per person to $1650 so it would cost upwards of 10K just to get at four piece band to the States.

I believe there is a special lower cost limited visa bands/artists can use for shows at SXSW and showcases usually only LA or NYC.

Here's the tweet about where the  proposed visa cost changes stand from Future of Music Coalition

Great news! Remember how in January we heard that Homeland Security was proposing to triple the visa fees for international artists, making it impossible for many artists to tour the US? Artists, venues, arts presenters, and fans all filed comments opposing the fee hike. Well…
DHS has announced that they are going to delay any final rulemaking on the visa fees until March 2024, and continue to review public feedback.  That's an encouraging sign and an organizing victory worth celebrating!

more details in the thread

but yes fees and processing time is really causing issues for international touring artist in the US.

plus UK artists now have even more fees trying to go to EU.

damn
also was wondering why a band would make the effort to get across the pond to only do just 1-2 dates, but this answers it

is this some sort of protectionist tariff created by the 'recording and touring artists of the US' to discourage artists from coming here
nuts
Cute story about an 11-year-old Michael McDonald fan

Paisley imagined McDonald was in his 40s and had blond hair. She even drew a pencil sketch of what she imagined his face looked like.

But last summer, Paisley searched for McDonald on Google and saw he had white hair and wrinkles. In distress, she ran to her mom’s room crying, “No!”

Glad the Washington Post is getting around to doing one of the essential responsibilities of the Fourth Estate: passive aggressively making Michael McDonald feel bad about himself.

When you possess the most certifiably distinctive voice in pop, you need to be taken down a notch now and then.
