Musicological banter

I wonder if DC concert attendance will go down cause of the federal takeover of DC and some people wanting to avoid DC. Seeing some grumbling from people. Restaurant attendance is supposedly down.

I would guess it will go down marginally but since it probably is down a bit already from the post covid boom it’s going to add up.

Yesterday about 5 pm and then 8 pm saw a parked unmarked van on the esplanade by L’Enfant with about six people inside in army fatigues. Weird stuff. This is in addition to seeing groups walking on Wharf with DEA gear.

I would imagine this will be the nail in the coffin for DC… Covid nearly killed it, but this will officially.

I'd imagine multiple bands won't even want to play here, tons of queer/trans/minority folks that support artists and are artists themselves. They already can hardly get by touring, so seems like a no brainer to skip a place that's going to cause more issues for them than benefits. I'd imagine the already hurting restaurant bar scene will continue to get crushed as well.

Chicago's next.
this is so bad for dc
tourism
restaurants
Arts
I'm sure a few other industries I'm not thinking of

are going to be hit with dramatic losses because of this military take over
This is not sustainable from a cost standpoint and will do very little on a medium or long term basis to stop or even lower crime
DC unfortunately doesn't have 'rights' so it's somewhat easy for the POTUS to do this, I guess we'll see how this plays out in other cities.

I'm not sure how the narrative when from 'we can't defund the police" to "why support the police when we can send in the military'

All this is in an effort to get Dems to oppose this, then the GOP clap back with "see they are soft on crimes, they want your daughter to get gang raped in the streets and then celebrate the criminals who did it"

So many hard working DC residents who are just trying to make an honest living are getting screwed for this political theater
and MAGA is chearing it on with glee (whilst licking the boot they claimed they were so against)
Come to think of it my drive into DC yesterday about 4 traffic was unusually light but I chalked it up to people still being away.

I just have no idea how much difference it will make as far as shows. I also am not convinced Trump will stick to it…he got the headlines he wanted and moved the yardstick…now he’s trying to move it again (Chicago)…. I think with DC they will probably release made up statistics showing DC crime way down, declare victory and move on. Gradually things will go back to normal….I mean Trump is just after attention and headlines and he already got that…. What’s in it for him to continue the charade? Parading around the wharf and Georgetown isn’t going to do that much to lower DC crime
so did no one go see Oasis??

also what's with 'Biblical' and describing their shows

Smakie had gone to see them some where across the pond…I commented "would love to see some post show banter" to which he responded Biblical

then i read a fluf article in the NME and saw it there too

randomly found this great line: Their hit songs like "Wonderwall" and "Live Forever" are sometimes mocked for sounding aimless or melodically weak, with vocals likened humorously to a cat being strangled or a moose drowning in a tar pit.
I was reminded of the English sketch show that re-created an infamous Sex Pistols interview but with Amish People.

for context the original interview and that's Siouxsie Sioux on the right who joins in

"All lyrics are written by Morrissey; all music is composed by Johnny Marr"

as such, unless marr signed away his rights in some other contract, morrissey cannot unilaterally sell #4 thru #7 of that list (likely to have a problem with #3 as well).

Five here.
We're all in agreement the funniest outcome here is the Gallagher Brothers buying it all lock, stock, and barrel and touring as The Smiths, yeah?

No, Oasis is freshly loaded with reunion tour money — they can afford it on their own.
