silly rule in my opinion

i'm going to have to take this back. i've been reading that its a light rule designed to prevent uefa from imposing a stricter rule, so i'm all for it

The Premier League has announced that from next season every team must name a squad of 25 players, of which eight must be home grown.

"As of next season clubs will be required to have a squad named of up to 25 players, of which no more than 17 can be over the age of 21 and not home grown.

"The definition of home grown is trained for three years under the age of 21 by somebody in the English and Welsh professional system. Clubs will have to declare their 25 at the end of August when the window shuts and then again at the end of January.

Oops - Le Arse St. Germain are fucked…..no?

I like the rule but would've increased the number to 10 andincluded the republic of Ireland with the "home grown" countries. Is scotland included? Not that there's any talent of note that comes from up there apart from Fletch.

No, it's actually designed to curb the high profile transfer spending.  As long as Le Arse continue to get guys before they turn 18 into their system, they're fine under the rule.

It's Chelsea and the new Man City that could be in trouble.  Maybe El Pool as well.
i think i read that chelsea had 8 and liverpool has 7 this year

its got to be a boon for the academies in the uk though. its good for the toon too, theyve bought teen agers the past few years

id imagine that scotland and the republic are not included because they have their own leagues, but they could not exclude wales because of cardiff, swanzea, ect
You'd think they'd be all for it with United having dominated England with home grown talent….Giggs-Scholes-Beckham-Neville x2-Ferdinand-Rooney-……etc etc etc….the list is goes on
under these silly rules you'd included the brazilian full back twins too eventually

Giggs-Scholes-Beckham-Neville x2-Ferdinand-Rooney

Huh??

Sorry, let me clarify for you.

Ryan Giggs - Paul Scholes - David Beckham - Gary Neville - Phil Neville - Rio Ferdinand - Wayne Rooney

There, they all have first and last names so can't be Brazillians (aka -  know who their father is). The wild card at OT is Hargreaves…would he be considered English, which he is, German were he played or Canadian were he lived?

Seriously, if it was my rules the players would have to be born in the home countries and been through the teams academy.
they came to united at age 17. in two years they will have trained in england for 3 years, thus counting toward the silly rule. what did i say that was so bad?
Hargreaves play for United?  Wow…who knew?

This is the crux - you guys are debating two different things.

Mankie - that's not the rule and why the Brazilians would count under these rules.

Shoeshine - Mankie is arguing for the other rule where they have to bleed the same color as Mankie.  Sort of.
to be honest i wasnt debating, i didnt realize we were talking about a nonexistant and possibly illegal rule
Shoeshine, I wasn't really arguing with you, more disagreeing with the loopholed filled rule. Homegrown should be 'homegrown' as in BORN THERE.

Smackie - nice one…I think Bayern saw United coming on that deal huh? I hope he makes a full recovery because he's a good player in the United tradition. Carrick is still finding his way I think, which is not good as he's been with us for long enough now.

Tevez could be fit for Sunday….but this begs the question 'is he capable of playing 90 minutes?' He never managed it for United - yuk yuk yuk!!!

Awwww. hutch I'm sorry if I insulted your girlfriend. I'm only joking.

It will be ineresting to see what reception he gets from the United fans if he does take the field. The OT faithful almost always give former players a warm welcome but the way he pissed and moaned like the little bitch he is over his signing issues (which was due to his gangster of an agent) he may get some well deserved crap. Plus he sigined for the Moss Side Morons.
wow..what a game…
8 AM in a day when I have a ton of sports to watch and I'm already exhausted….
