I was trying to figure out who would be the best choice and I came up with Rio myself….but only through process of elmination as nobody jumps out at me as a 'leader' to be honest. Rooney will be a great captain in a few years but he's still maturing and subject to losing his cool.
agreed on gerrard
i read something on the english captaincy last week, and actually came away thinking rooney myself. i was going to bring it up here, but i didnt want to make you too happy :p
i do like the idea of trying a few people out before a final decision. i think rio deserves a run out. at least you know he wont try and take the card out of the refs hand

Rooney is not there yet, but it's his job for the taking (as it is at Old Trafford as well). He just needs to grow up a bit.
I like the Rio nod. What he's done with the back four at United is vastly underrated. For all the applause the Goals For Number gets, it's the ridiculously low Goals Against number that has given United the differential it enjoys.

I just don't think a striker is the ideal position to captain a team. A full back or midfielder can see the how the game is unfolding much better than a striker can. Besides, you never see Generals leading armies from the front lines! ;)
