If it was a porno the ruffian would be a manly female…..

A Michigan Man reads the script to pornography and allows their mind do make the film. Tastefully.
I don't have any major takes to tell from the Old 97's show in Baltimore last night. It was my first time in the city I once called home in maybe five years yesterday, maybe more, maybe less. A few comments:

1. I made it to three breweries. I had a single beer at each, so my opinion in no way fairly covers all, but in order of preference: 1. Nepenthe (first time there) 2. Pariah (first time there) 3. Union Craft (first time at new location.)

2. Baltimore crowds on a Sunday night are more lively than DC crowds on a Friday night.

3. The other three Old 97's are aging, but Rhett Miller never does.

4. I'm glad I got Vas to go to his first Old 97's show in 21 years. He actually seemed to be enjoying it.
I don't understand going to a brewery, and having one beer. Why not do a 4 oz pour flight of a few?

For me, I prefer the taste of one beer at a time, rather than mixing up tastes as I go. So that could mean drinking one four ounce after the other, but sometime you need more than four ounces to get a handle on a beer. Or at least I do. hich is not to day that I never do flights, I'm just not always a huge fan.

Plus, in this case, at the first brewery, I arrived at last call. I wouldn't have had the time to enjoy a full flight. I was the last to leave as it was.  And the second and third breweries *only* served full pours, no half pours or flight sizes.
Beer poetry, my friend . . . beer poetry.
A little mid show banter, but who in the pit got busted by Barney for being the one partaking :)

Enjoyable set, interesting versions of some the classics
I smelled it too..

I was about fourth row center

I love watching Barney play those guitar licks

Short attention span review

Pet Shop Boys were stunning and I do believe Chris Lowe  cracked a smile or two
I can’t believe how good Neil Tennant sounds. I almost thought he had to be lip synching. Great set list.

The pit was uncomfortably crowded during PSB. It was ridiculous.
It's a sin, I wasn't able to see them. I got to see them a few years ago, at Warner, and it sort-of changed my life.
Can't remember the last time I saw three shows in a week's time or even back to back shows…

Yola put another great and fun show, it helps that I'm smitten with her self proclaimed "Genre Fluid" sound and records.  Her band was tight, just a great evening all around.

Heaven 17 was a total bucket list show for me, never thought I'd seen them live so had to go to this one for sure.  I'll say it's bit strange to see dance music Synth band at the Birchmere on a Sunday night.  While the show was hit filled along with some stories about the songs along the way, kinda wish they hadn't waited 40 years to tour here, as Glen Gregory's voice isn't nearly smooth as it once was.  Although, it didn't help that apparently he woke up unable to talk and admitted to being horse come showtime, so guess I'll have to take what we could get  Hopefully, he'll be drinking his tea for the future shows.

Regardless, Martyn Ware and the two backup singers were in fine voice and we did get a  great rendition of "Temptation" along the way. Apparently the beef between Heaven 17 and the Phil Oakey is still strong as a couple comments were passed along the way.

Show was about half full and I guess when you fall of the scene for a good part of 25 years, the casual US fan is probably going to lose interest.  Would I see them again, probably not unless they were on a really strong festival type show.  Would be great if they do  co-headline tour with their old Sheffield pal Martin Frye (ABC).
Gregory sounded great at the Bowie tribute show at Birchmere but that was more than six years ago….at a certain age the voice can only do so much….although Neil Tennant-maybe cause he speak sings- sounded incredible

Did you try and get your record signed?

actaully caught Glen fronting the last living spiders from mars at the birchmere to do Bowie's the man who sold the world
just a week or so after bowies death
was quite amazing and he did such a good job
