That’s awesome dude! Happy for you!!!

Glad to hear it was a blast
Was 100% planning on going, but after a day of chopping wood, filtering and kegging 50 gallons of cider and a 90 minute drive in the night rain… the couch was looking more inviting than usual

Oh one note I forgot…my hat plays a prominent role in one of the videos the Black Cat shared in Instagram from Saturdays show

Me too!
But I'm still in favor of seeing the Eagles at the Sphere.
DSO at The Anthem last night. Not my favorite show from them. One of their "original setlist" shows, which is often kind of a drag. John K. sat in for Stranger, which was one of the better songs of the night. Left early - a first for me for a DSO show.
I thought it was odd that the entire 3rd level of The Anthem was closed. I've never seen that before. Do they do that often?

Not often but once in a while if there is no need for all that extra space.
2/1 The Metropolitan Jazz Orchestra with Branford Marsalis
Tried to do the family culture outting, but have to admit this show was pretty boring. I'll take a jazz quartet over an orchestra any day. It was too Ricky Ricardo.
My wife complained about the geriatric nature of the crowd, but the irony was that both she and my daughter fell asleep, even though the show was over by 10.

Hey a free ticket is a free ticket.

I'm going to say that the Perennial/Dim Wizard/Miri Tyler show at Black Cat Red Room Friday was one of those good verses great shows. Now I realize a lot of smaller shows in spaces like the Red Room will only run vocals and likely keyboards through the PA and then the guitar players rely on their own amps. With that said it seems like that setup works better for some bands/genres then others..
I enjoyed Miri Tyler's set as I'm still becoming familiar with her music. In particular her bass player was great,
Dim Wizard were good but I felt their performance was a bit hampered by the fact the vocals were never quite right, definitely a band that would be suited with a full PA. But thumbs up on the whole Crass meets Squeeze vibe the band has. Kudos to the one guitar player who had to setup on the side of the stage…
Having thoroughly enjoyed Perennial set at the Bad Moves record release party I was eager to see them live again, as they clearly give it their all. Bouncing around, at one point singing on top of the bar, just mayhem all around. I did however think they were better on the Black Car mainstage, definitely a band who works best on the full PA.

i was going to ask if you made it out. I thought I saw you by the bar, to the right side of the room (facing the stage) but then I remembered I haven't seen you in person in like 10 years, so I got seconds thoughts of asking a stranger "are you kosmo?".
I like most of Miri's bands, and the solo stuff is pleasant, but I don't actively listen that much. Still, fun live…her drummer was a blast to watch. Plus, I loved the Green Day cover…definitely took me most of the song to really recognize it.
Second time seeing Dim Wizard, and I liked it more than the first. Again, I don't know how much I'd ever listen to their albums, but as an opener they're a lot of fun.
Perennial is just a force of nature, man. Perfect set too…10 songs in like 50 minutes. Seems short to type it out like that, but I honestly don't know how they'd even have the energy for another song. Kosmo, I recall you saying something about the drummer being the secret weapon, and I'd only disagree to say it's not a secret. They beat the shit out of their kit.

This is literally the secret forum handshake for IRL sightings.
edit: "Are you friends with kosmo vinyl"

dunno, but that setup works better for some audience members than others… i guess the benefit would be the possibility of "choose your own mix": not enough guitar? move closer to the stage! need less vocal? get away from (or to the side of) the PA!
As I recall after Perennial set on the main stage, my comment to someone was that their drummer was likely playing with other bands as he was doing a little ska here, if memory serves me jazz inspired as well. Friday he was just a force of nature…
For Miri’s set since it was just a trio the vocals were fine, but even backed away from the stage the vocal fix wasn’t quite right for Dim Wizard but the band and the mosh pit were having a blast.

I've got the receipts

Perennial were up first and if you are going to go on stage might as well go all out… Plenty of antics, lots of banter and some heavy heavy riffs … the drummer was definitely their secret weapon

Doesn't have quite the intrigue of Dorothy.
I was clarifying why I considered Perennial’s drummer their secret weapon :P
and I was just clarifying you were 100% right. That's stuck in my head since that show…obviously you couldn't have the whole without all of the parts, but man, even they seemed shocked by their playing.

ABC / Howard Jones
Was looking forward to getting a chance to see ABC live again and Martin Fry and his crack band didn't disappoint. A set with all the hits had Martin sounding great on vocals and the band sticking closely to the recorded versions including the drummer deftly handling the drum parts from the "Look Of Love" album. Martin passed along that the song "Vanity Kills" was their homage to the Prince/The Time/Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. I would definitely enjoying seeing ABC again and give their set an A-
Wasn't sure about how Howard Jones set would play out as his vocals came of little thin at first and it seemed like his guitar and second keyboardist was doing the heavy lifting on the synth lines. But as the show progressed his vocals got stronger and he was definitely doing those famous keyboard runs. Since he now tours with the bass player from Kajagoogoo he does a version of "Too Shy" but oddly that famous bass line wasn't exactly re-created. Overall I give props for Howard touring with a full band and willing to do different often rocked up takes on his classics and clearly he had the bigger sing along hits then ABC. Would not feel compelled to see him again and would give his set a B.

Kim Deal show was great. Played the new solo album, a few of her solo songs from that 7-inch series she released like 10 years back and 5 (I think) Breeders songs. She's the coolest to ever do it.
Capital Turnaround sucks, man. I hate the vibe but it was worth ponying up for the good seats…had a great spot right in front of Kim.
Good seeing bearman after like 15 years or something.
