Tweedy has sucked songwriting-wise since he got rid of Jay Bennett(RIP)… is it related to Jay or is it simply that his creative well ran dry? Impossible to say.. most songwriters only have about a 10 year period of peak songwriting..

LOL

It's gonna be the jam vehicle of the summer, son.

and will do re: willie

edit: looks like willie is actually sold out in the pav, so my method most likely won't work as real people have these tickets vs. scalpers.

thanks for this link. Great stuff.

I enjoyed the Meyerhoff show, not in love with the new songs…but interested to see how they are on the new record.
I was thinking "wow, I wonder why they have semi-obscure British dreampop band The Primitives in there? Oh well, who cares!"

in the event you didn't know….primitives was the first name of Uncle Tupleo…then that British band broke big and they changed their name
saw some boardie-favorites as of late:
cloud nothings - stellar, as expected
metz - after touring 1+ years, i expected these guys to be a little flat compared to the last time i saw them. absolutely not the case, and they put on one of the best rock performances i've ever seen.
courtney barnett - my new rock crush :D

Metz absolutely destroys. Great band.
metz > cloud nothings
Is Metz playing new material?  They're due for another album, methinks.

yes, but they are short on words. IIRC, they played one or two new songs, but i think one was an older, unreleased song. no hints on another album.

Wait, I thought they weren't playing together anywhere near here?!

ugh.

Love both of them.
And I love love love the Courtney Barnett album.

Well that was just wonderful. Thank you. I needed that.

Great show. QOTSA were fantastic as usual, but Brody Dalle was on fire, and St. Vincent was incredibly cool to see too. I heard presale was only 3,500 but it seemed like there were a lot more folks there. QOTSA's set was very different than the SF show I saw in April. They dropped all the visuals behind them. This probably gives them more flexibility with changing the setlist, but I kind of miss the macabre visuals. But the performance was solid. Did anyone else get to talk to Jon Theodore on the VIP deck before the show? Super sweet guy & so talented. Very gracious & mild mannered.
they cut one song……what was it?

…Like Clockwork? Fairweather Friends?

I enjoyed the show, we got right up to the stage on the right side and was able to jump in and out of the pit with no real obstacles. Was just kind of bummed they played a bulk of their new album. Nothing off the first, 3 songs off Rated R. Still tons of fun. I went up to 932 for a bit of the show, went back down for the end. Song For The Dead will always be awesome to see live. I walked over to the merch stand after the show and they sold out of posters as I was next in line. I'm so sad. First QOTSA show I've been to where I didn't snag the poster. Sigh.
